So sorry Sue. you took a chance with a feral. My Dad, before he passed, had befriended 6 ferals, one made it in the house. after my dad passed it got sick the same way and we had to put her down. it was Mom's last reminder of her husband.

Boy that was a poor attempt to cheer you up, I suck at this.

hey Don hear your asking about lifts? other than the wealth of real knowlege you can find on this thread about them my suggestion would think about what you want to do with your truck, how much lift you'd like, if you have any plans for armor or bumpers, and how you'd like the truck to ride and function. also the small matter of budget then call and talk to marie at headstrong offroad and she can put you together a package that will best meet your needs, wants, and budget

Thanks... So here is where I am now... This is my first 4x4 - had an old Dodge truck 30 years ago, but it was RWD. I've always been intrigued by off-roading, as I am from WV originally, and I have a lot of family and friends that love it. But I've never really tried it, other than on my brother's ATV. My motorheading has been around going fast - I've crewed on an SCCA Formula E race car, and have owned several big blocks, and sports cars as well.

But I bought this truck because I need a truck - I bought a house in the country and there are a lot of reasons that a truck makes sense.

So bottom line, I'm an off-road newbie for the most part, and I don't have a clue what I want to do to the truck, if anything really. One thing I don't want to do is to turn it into a money pit!

It's a sport, with the very stiff sport suspension, and no locker, no crawl control, etc... So I'm not entirely sure that it's the right truck for off-roading...

The upcoming trip to GWNF, may be eye-opening.

I've got to agree with Chris about HeadStrong. They offer some very reasonably price options. Adjustable Bilstein shocks that can offer lift without having to go with new springs. And from all the guys on here I see replacing their original TRD Off-Road skids with the new Pro series, I imagine there should be the original ones out there for sale if your looking to add a little armor. Not sure what tires your Sport came with but I'm guessing they're not overly aggressive.

that's why i suggested marie. you tell her what you want and she'll put together a package that meets your needs. i personally don't have the money or desire to purchase some of the top end suspension components and they aren't needed. i followed the advice of some of the people on here like andy and some others and have been putting together a suspension that is functional and affordable. it gives me what i need. it greatly improved my ride quality yet made the truck more functional offroad. as far as you not having a locker i thought all sports came with the e-locker. whether you have the right truck or not of course you do it's a tacoma. mine is a 4cyl automatic with no locker and it works great, a little low on power but i'm working on that. you can have a nice lift without having to break the bank. you live plenty close to me i'd be happy to meet with you and you can take the truck for a drive and see what you think. in fact i think lloyd is replacing his relatively new suspension which may be a great oportunity for you. lloyd is @Subway4X4. the high end stuff is wonderful and no doubt worth the money except perhaps to guys like us who aren't going to moab or somewhere like that or rock crawling.

Well the trip is done and the truck is in the driveway. Only had one strap get slacked but I don't think I got a full wrap on the ratchet the first go. I'm tired! Little better than 1500 miles and, with California laws, could only go 55 mph pulling a trailer. So it makes for some long days.

I gotta tell you though, the roads in that state are so tore up a person doesn't want to drive much faster than that anyway!

Its the AZ people pulling trailers that don't pay taxes in our state that cause the problems. :poking:

I've paid enough taxes in that communist state to build alot of road. I just moved to Arizona in 2013. The first year I filed my tax return in Az I actually got a return! I was totally dumbfounded!

Yup. I'm replacing some of my less than a year old suspension. Not really high end replacements, but since I'm getting plate bumpers front and rear, I need some higher rated springs front and rear. With this comes a little higher overall lift, which then requires aftermarket UCA's, extended rear shocks, bumpstops, etc. The snowball keeps rolling....
