What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

You could get some cheap shocks from one of the big box stores, its Shocktober month at advanced auto? Just some cheap shocks to hold you over if you're that desperate.

The whole idea behind installing leafs first is so you can cycle the leaves and take measurements to determine how much travel they have. Then you can find shocks that have the extended/collapsed length and stroke length that will pair nicely with your new leafs. Is that what you're wondering about?

 

Yeah. But I had just assumed that one of those I had in mind would work regardless. Apparently not. Wonder why they sell them as kits tho.. Downsouth offers a build your own and they only offer icon/fox/ Billie 5125 iirc, or kings. What are some other options for rear shocks? Depending on what will work best with my leaves after I cycle them that is.

 

Match them to what ever front shock you have or are planning on getting so the valving is similar.

 

Ugh. Totally reconsidering this whole idea now. Wtf. Welp, king rears are totally out of the question. At least for quite a while. I really wanted to get a mid travel setup, as it's taken me this long to save for it. And having to spend even more for all those little "extras" like shackles and brake lines and other things, is putting me at the max of my limit. Starting to sound like it's better to go with something else. Like an ome kit.. Or an all pro kit. Sigh..

 

Well if it makes you feel better I have leafs sitting in my garage. Because I can't afford the rest of the stuff either.
What springs were you going to use ?.

I've been driving on my shot tie-rods and nothing (that I know of) has been different.

 

I been thinking on camp out so I need a tent.

Can you give ideas of where to buy a tent to use on top of the Tacoma shortbed ?

Some TWM has nice ones but don't recall whom can share those links ?

New injector. Tammy is running fine again.

 

Maybe the the rack? Try the tie rods first. If that doesnt fix it then it might just be a bad rack.

Unless his is all rusty i dont see why he cant reuse the old shackles? I just reused mine when i swapped in my new leaf pack. Definitely get new bolts just in case they are seized tho

 

Why not run parts store brand ones? The ones at oriellys look beefy compaired to the oem ones and they are cheap!

You can just knock what is left of the old stud out and drill the hole out to 9/16ths. Then it will accept a regular bolt.

 

I'm still trying to wrap my head around this whole idea of waiting to get shocks. All of what I see is available, are all extended length rear shocks over stock, almost all I've chosen are the 0-3". Anything else is definitely too short. And ome nitros are also extended length, yet someone said they might be too short with the dakars.. So people that are getting kits with the nitros designed to be paired with the dakars, are getting shafted Or what?? Or just in some cases? I don't understand. Ha. I understand about trying to find the right shocks for your application, but figured the nitros or say fox 2.0 0-3" would work just fine with the dakars!?

 

The shock issue is due to the stock mounts. The passenger side is close, the drivers side is short by about 3" with OME.

The problem is when you find a shock with the right amount of droop, it will bottom out upon compression using the stock mounts.

Now, to get it right, you will have to re-locate your rear shocks. How is up to you, there are several here who have moved them and the results are very favorable..
Consensus is you will need 10" minimum stroke, but 12" is better if you have room.

I'm currently running 12" stroke el-cheapo emulsion shocks and the ride is fine. Not stellar, but fine.

 

Its not the shocks fault that they fall short. Its the fact they have to mount in the factory location. No matter what brand you get thats gona be the limiting factor.

 

Hey weird question guys... I am going to buy a cheapo canopy and I'm wondering which clamps work for our bed rails. They curve over a lot and I'm not sure which clamps will have the clearance.
