How much are you paying for your 2017 Tacoma?

Picked up my 2017 Inferno Red DCSB OR 4x4 about 3 weeks ago for what I'm guessing is a fairly average deal:

MSRP - $36,503 (with just Tow package, and Carpet Mats/Sil Protectors)

Price of Truck - $34,151
Dealer Doc Fee - $349
Paid - $34,500 +TTL

 

... and this is why I repeatedly say that negotiating against "invoice" is not the best way. What happens you agree to "invoice plus $300" and they then have a substantially higher "invoice" price than you were expecting? Or they add $900 in myriad fees and other crap.

Best to stick to negotiating on Drive-Out (aka Out-the-Door) pricing. For comparison to others, back out your taxes/title/registration fees and compare to MSRP plus all dealer fees.

This is located in California so I haven't been able to find many dealerships that will give much of a discount. How does this look?


I am also considering a 2016 DCSB TRD OR 4x4 MT:
Same truck but 2016, manual and no cover for $32,885 or $35,750 OTD (MSRP: $34,633)

Not sure if I want a manual and how much a 2016 vs 2017 difference should change the value.

I would say grab the manual, but I would go for a 17.

 

Not possible. Manual on lot is a 2016. The AT is a 2017!

 

Oh but it is possible, if you can wait. Buy a new truck, get what you want. 2017 manual, you may not be able to get one in a few years.

 

I believe the 2016 and 2017 years are almost identical except for the rear power window? Doesn't really make sense to pay a higher price to get to 2017 versus 2016 Manual transmission? This one is on the lot at a discounted off of MSRP price just about to enter dollars over invoice.

 

How many dealers have you called to cross shop with? I consider calling three others a MINIMUM.

That said, I would also not accept a price above the *average* sale price listed on TrueCar.com (plus TTL, all other fees waived or included). Note this is not the TrueCar target or buy price. I mean I would aim for the left side of that bell curve, targeting the best National price, but never accept something above the average sale price.

 

I have been in contact with about 4 dealerships within a 2.5 hour drive. Here are the true car results for the AT. Mine is 2017 DCSB TRD OR 4x4 AT MSRP: $37,334, Negotiated Price: $36,016 "$800 over invoice", $39,478 Out the door (includes tax and registration). How does that look?

 

If your ok with it, so be it. Me I would not buy a 16 at this point. And FYI true car gets a cut if you buy using their service, and they want you to be willing to pay thier national average, and feel good, use it to ensure your under.

OTD: $39,698.17 (tax, convenience, vin id security, registration, -$750 college rebate)

according to truecar, the average price of my build is 38,600 not including remote starter

im happy! its something like 2k below MSRP & build date is 11/7, should be here by the end of november

Original truck we negotiated on did not have Toyoguard option (sealer etc. with 4 oil changes and 9 tire rotations---total of 699). Had to find me one and when they obtained a truck, it already had that option (did not tell me before picking up). They threw that in there as well. So original deal was 3799 off sticker but with discount for toyo guard, it brought my total amount off to the 4498 if that makes sense.

 

WOW. What state and what dealer. EXCELLENT deal!

 

^nonrefundable deposit? That is not okay. Especially if you didn't agree to a non-refundable fee ahead of time or signed something.

 

Call your credit card...tell them you didn't authorize the charge, should take care of it.

 

I would also start with the credit card issuer or bank. They have a lot more leverage against the dealer. Good luck
