yeah, he had problems with the ABS. It would activate at the worst possible time. like when trying to stop. I absolutely hate it. No it doesn't harm anything to disable it other that another annoying idiot light.

Nobody actually realizes that ABS actually disables your vehicles ability to stop efficiently. It had good intentions, but wow, we'll never know just how many people have actually died because of it.
When I got my drivers license, and took drivers ed, ABS wasn't even on the radar. We were taught how to drive and stop in poor conditions. ABS does not allow that to happen.

I wasn't insinuating that it was a direct result of the traction control but more so trying to see if there was a correlation is all. My theory is that the way the ECU has to balance ABS and other traction control devices at the same time it might be screwing up which is why more people with the later model are doing the delete. Not sure if that is the case. Just doing some research.

    Plethora of "useless" shit
I need to do mine as well due mine almost outing into someone last winter. Going qbout 20 slowly easing into the brake well before the turn lane. As I started to merge over it decided it wanted my foot to go to the floor. Lights went crazy with lots of whirling sounds and clunking. I was lucky that no one was next to me and the light was green so I was able to swerve baxk straight, probably took a good 50 yards before it decided I could have control back.

Oh yea I was just stating that so you could know when I had issues. You're trying to figure it out. I got no qualms with that. Like Jake said. I need 9000 to fix it permanently. Support your local vet people!

If you are getting flat spots from emergency braking, you might want to slow down. :D Don't take that personal. Flat spots on tires from skidding is...ridiculous.

I get how ABS is supposed to function and yes I am a product of learning to drive prior to ABS. I am not certain that "disabling" it isn't harmful to other parts of the programming in the ECU. Very early versions of ABS possibly like on your 1st gen it was a stand alone system, but in the 2nd gens the system was tied into the main ECU. So with it not signaling that it is "OK" or functional, it very well could be creating additional error logs in the ECU that could lead to improper function. I am just speculating at this moment but I want to talk to some Toyota techs before I consider such a mod.

I cannot speak for the newer models and how to disable, but there is always a way around it. Mine, for the record, never came with it. Totally ABS free.

Ah yes now I see the year on your truck so yeah it would not have it. I think during the 90's it was just starting to pop up on luxury cars and sports cars wasn't it?

My friends 2006, he just pulled the relay. Doesn't even have a blinking light or any other kind of error.
My van, a 2002 GMC, just the Brake idiot light stays on while driving. Otherwise it is fine. Seatbelt light stays on too, that never bothered me either.

Yeah about that time. I remember it was highly controversial and everybody was sharing ideas on how to disable it, which was easy on the early editions.
Interesting to note, it was more common on passenger cars in the beginning. You know, chickmobiles...

For the record, Like I mentioned, it had good intentions. The problem is the execution.
It was designed to activate during a panic stop, like OH SHIT, and slam on the brakes with enough force to shove the pedal through the floor.
The problem, like some have noticed, is that the systems are way too sensitive, There should be allowance for some wheel slip.... I would like to see the slip monitor go away and only activate when the pedal is forced to the end of it's stroke, like you would normally get in a OH SHIT moment..
It's not just Toyota either, it's all across the board. They all suck.

I've not had flat spots on the truck.... I have abs. I had a 240sx that would get them at auto x events when I was learning to attack a cone course. I have not had any issue with abs kicking on when it shouldnt it has kept me from sliding into an intersection though in the snow on these nittos

Maybe they toned it down for the 16's? I haven't noticed it with traction control off unless I really stomp the brakes, and not at all in 4. Or if I don't have trac off in 4 then it tries to brake when you get too sideways. The only time I really noticed it when you have the MTS set and it tries to limit wheel slip on rocks.

Mine is an 08 I had it disabled last year...normally I leave the abs on....
When it snows or when I'm out running around on trails I disable it..I feel way more in control with any sliding or skidding...
