600# I believe, they'll be replaced with 700# when I get them rebuilt, hopefully this winter.

A picture is indeed worth a thousand opinions. And then, if you had gotten shocks long enough to not over extend on the stock mounts, it would have bottomed out all the time. Or you would have lost a lot of uptravel bumping them to prevent that.

I don't know what the hell I'm talking about. I never wheel my truck, so I have zero first-hand experience. Hell, there's not even a mall here to crawl. I bent the shaft on my 5100s hitting the curb too hard at the local KFC drive-thru.


Whatever I'm doing I'm doing something wrong. I guess to get more popular on TW you have to spread misinformation instead of info learned from years of trail and error.

Whats your reasoning for wanting to switch to a #700 coil?

 

Well I was thinking 100# bumper+ eventually a winch+ heavier duty skid was a good reason but if not that'll save me some money which is always good.

 

Highest I would go coil wise is to #650. Im running #600 coils with bumper/full skids etc (no winch) but still ride it at 3in of lift.

The higher coil you go the stiffer it’ll be without a bunch of weight on the front.

The lightest coil that’ll get you the ride height you want is the best. So if you run a #600 coil with preload but NOT enough so your getting coil bind, and get the desired ride height you want, that’ll be the best option usually. (if that makes sense)

 

if you want to do something right, send me that rear bumper

 

I can get mine pretty well on the bumps with 620lb coils and no extra weight. Full bump photo for reference.

Maybe it was just the situation where most of the weight was forward.

But according to this thread high-clearance bumpers aren't necessary on 1st gens. You sure you want cut you bedsides and add all that unnecessary clearance?

 

they installed a new speed bump at the mall.
