That's actually really interesting to me, because I got the feeling that they have been hesitant to actually release fixes because it would mess up their numbers.

There should be at LEAST 5 TSBs: LCA howl, Tranny; Diff howl; rumble strip vibration; and 1800-2300 RPM vibes. But like you said, its only 2 (you forgot about the LCA howl). I dont know that its a reflection of a better truck or someone (Toyota ) gaming their system. I bet if we traced this back, we'd find the reason tied to some bonuses or incentives to keep the TSB numbers low for this release. But thats all irrelevant and just me guessing at a reason for the lack of TSBs.

Another thing I've notice about this community, and truck owners in general, is that everyone seems so willing to put up with bullshit or fix it themselves. You'll see guys climbing under their trucks to grease zerks, duck tape control arms, check their tranny fluid even if its a crazy involved process, guys tearing apart their dashes to get to a sqeaking noise, going under their hood to glue the hood back on properly, etc etc.

MAybe Toyota just set the expectations so low last time that guys aren't even coming in to the dealerships to get stuff fixed because they know its an uphill battle?

I guess the numbers dont lie, but being in the group of people dealing with bullshit issues SUCKS. I'd much rather be on the other end where I have a perfect truck, so I can flippantly dismiss anyone else's problem as bogus.

I went from an '03 Ranger FX4/OR that i loved and never had any issues with to my '16 Taco TRD/OR. The styling in/out is awesome. Rides much better on road than my Ranger (which bounced around like a Jeep) and Taco is quiet too. Havent had the chance to go off road yet. The tranny shifting issues, for me, subsided after about 1500...mostly. Had the TSB update bc while using CC it would down shift and not upshift unless i turned it off. TSB fixed that. Still have some issues one hills with it too eager to upshift/downshift. It's more of an annoyance than anything and as you drive it you can anticipate the hills to step on the throttle early. We have over 7k together now and like this truck a lot. I will love it, if they get the shifting fixed...or maybe after the first snow...or off-road adventure. If I had to do it over, I'd still buy Taco.

I have 17000kms on mine. Love it SINCE I got the transmission TSB done. I would guess the new trucks will have it done before you even see your new one. It is a great truck that you will fall in love with. They have sold a million of these trucks. A handful of people on this site are whining...the others? They are driving around loving their Tacoma. Have no fear....upgrade!

Ah...I don't think they've sold a million of these (3rd Gen) trucks yet, but I'm taking it on faith they will.

    Cheers!

But more importantly, I'm real anxious to see if anyone will clock in a million trouble free miles on one :/

    Cheers!

I'm still waiting for mine to break. I bought one, knowing it was a piece of crap but it's really let me down so far. Starts every time, doesn't make any weird noises... shifts fine. I don't know what to do about it.

Just got a 2017 TRD PRO. Absolutely love it. I've only put a couple hundred miles on it...so things could change. But I haven't heard any of these noises or whistles, no transmission/gear issues, nothing but a great truck.

I had a 2nd gen Taco, read this forum, and actually had some reservations. Maybe Toyota worked some issues out on the 2017? I don't know. But I am happy to say that I love my TRD PRO. I'll come back and update this if things change.

You may have to give it some more time. All it would take is another 6k round of postings from another smtty99 and you might give in to the voices that tell you to turn your great running truck into a lemon law candidate.

I got mine on a 3 year lease, when that is up I'll get another one. I only drive 10K miles a year, it stays in warranty the whole time, and I save a couple hundred bucks a month off of financing on a purchased deal. I never keep a car more than three years a before I get bored and want a new one anyway, so it works for me. I have had zero problems with my 2017 TRD Sport DCLB. Now if it just works out like the FJ cruiser I just had. It would be great. I kept that at the end of the lease because the actual residual ended up being much higher than the contract residual. I ended up selling it and actually putting a decent chunk of change in my pocket. Love Toyota!
