Dobinsons 2nd Gen Tacoma Suspension Options

Hey guys, my name is Mike Tomczyk (aka Crikeymike) from Exit Offroad. I've been in the industry since 1998 and have always preferred to focus on suspension for 4x4's, since it's something you'll feel every single time you move your vehicle, whether driving to work or home, or offroad for the weekend. Everyone has their own build plans for their vehicle, so no same combo of parts is necessarily right for everyone, which is why we offer such a variety - to get you exactly what you're looking for!!

I was chatting about this within another thread, so I figured I should put it out here by itself.
For 4x4 and Prerunner Tacomas from 2005-2015.

Front Coils -
C59-296 - 15mm (1/2") lift, Stock front end, 378mm free height, 17mm wire, 586# (teal only)
C59-300 - 25mm (1.0") lift, Stock front end, 385mm free height, 17mm wire, 586#
C59-302 - 40mm (1.6") lift, Stock front end, 395mm free height, 17mm wire, 586#
C59-314 - 50mm (2.0") lift, Medium load front end (50-110lbs), 405mm free height, 17mm wire, 586# - lifts 2.5" with no front weight
C59-352 - 50mm (2.0") lift, Heavy load front end (110-240lbs), or 60mm lift (2.4") lift with no weight on front end, 385mm free height, 18mm wire, 730#
C59-354 - 60mm (2.4") lift, Heavy load front end (110-240lbs), or 70mm lift (2.75") lift with no weight on front end, 390mm free height, 18mm wire, 730#
C59-318 - 75mm (3.0) lift, Heavy load front end with 110-240lbs - not for twin tube, only IMS or MRA - 395mm free height , 18mm wire, 730LB Rate

Coils are offered in different colors - teal (standard), black or red, based on availability

**Dobinsons coils will fit Bilstein struts and many other brands. They're not an exclusive cut/shape/size as far as the ends of the coils are concerned.

GS59-221 - Twin tube, nitrogen charged, suitable for 0 to 2.5" of lift. 427mm comp, 540mm ext
GS59-220 - Twin tube, nitrogen charged, suitable for 0 to 3.5" of lift. Longer travel, taller coil seat height, 430mm comp, 558mm ext
IMS59-50220 - IMS Front Monotube struts - for 0-3.5" lift, 430mm comp, 558mm ext
MRA59-A220 - 3-way adjustable MRA struts w/resi - For 0-3.5" Front lift, 430mm comp, 558mm ext

Strut top caps
SC59-001 - We can assemble coils on the struts for you before shipping for an extra cost, saving you time for the install at home

Diff Drop Kit
DD59-527K - Suits Tacoma, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Hilux and Fortuner. Includes spacers for skid plate drop too.

Front Strut Spacer - Lean Correction Spacer
PS59-4030 - 1/4″ thick spacer at the strut equals approximately 1/2″ lift at the wheel. T-6061 aircraft grade alloy, machined then black anodized for corrosion resistance

Front UCA's
UCA59-003K - Suits 2005 to current Tacomas. Pair of replacement upper control arms to fix alignment issues with 2.5"+ lift heights. Use OE type rubber bushes on the frame end, and replaceable 555 Japanese high angle ball joint on the wheel side. 38mm OD tube, 5mm wall thickness (0.2") HSLA steel. Fixed caster of 3 degrees built in. Strongest and thickest build on the market. Fully assembled and ready to bolt in.
UCA59-203K - Billet Aluminum fully adjustable UCA's with 555 ball joints and OE style rubber bushings. These are noise free, yet have all the caster and camber adjustment you could want in a set of UCA's.

L59-110-R
3+2 Leaves, Raised Height (55mm Lift, 2.1″), Medium Duty, Recommend 50 to 100KG (110-220lbs) constant load

L59-111-R
4+2 Leaves, Raised Height (55mm Lift, 2.1"), Heavy Duty, 280KG constant load
**Remove a leaf for light load/empty rear ends on these springs.

L59-112-R
5+2 Leaves, Raised Height (55mm Lift, 2.1"), Super Heavy Duty, 400-550KG constant load

Rear Bushing Kit
PB59-1101K
Full rear poly bush kit, for fixed end and shackle ends, both sides, contains 12 x 1/2 bushings and sleeves (1 needed per vehicle), which covers both sides fixed end, and both end of the shackle (3 positions per leaf spring).

Rear Leaf Spring Greasable Pins
SP59-060
Greasable pins (bolts), zinc coated, gold appearance, designed to be able to grease bushing without removing, saving the time and effort to pull it out and regrease it (common with some brands of leaf springs). Can work on both ends of the leaf spring, so 4 per vehicle would be needed (sold individually or as pairs).

U-Bolts
UB59-453-2K
U-bolt kits, zinc coated, gold appearance. Sold as a pair, so 2 needed per vehicle.

Rear shocks
GS59-940 - Twin tube, nitrogen charged, suitable for 2-3" lift. 361mm comp, 614mm ext
IMS59-50940 - Rear IMS Monotube IFP Shocks for 0-3" - Specification – 14.2″ compressed length, 24.2″ extended length
IMS59-50941 - Rear IMS Monotube IFP Shocks for 2-3.5" longer travel (2" longer comp and ext lengths than the 50940's) - Specifications 16.5″ compressed length, 26.9″ extended length
MRA59-A940 - 3-way adjustable MRA shocks w/resi - For 0-3" lift - Rears are not a piggyback style. Resi mounts on frame, 14.2″ compressed length, 24.2″ extended length
MRA59-A941 - 3-way adjustable MRA LONG TRAVEL shocks w/resi - For max flex guys, requires 24" brake lines and 2" longer bump stops - 16.5″ compressed length, 26.9″ extended length

Quick Ride Kit
QR59-551K - 2" lift height
QR59-552K - 1.2" lift height (30mm)
Contains 2 spacer blocks and suitable longer u-bolts to lift the rear without removing or changing OE leaf springs. Angled to correct pinion angle. Suitable for people on a budget, or not wanting to change rear ride quality from stock. Does require longer shocks.

Dobinsons CV Boot Kits
CV59-557K Inner boot kit (1 pair) - High clearance CV boots for the inner position of the front shafts. High quality material, includes all new grease and clamps - great for lifted vehicles with higher angle CV's which are prone to boot failure

Replacement Brake Lines
USA made stainless braided replacement brake lines in Black or Red. Fronts are OEM length, as lifting these trucks doesn't require them to be extended.
Rears are either 2" or 4" extended. 2" for regular lifts, and 4" for long travel lifts

Will the spring packs work alongside the factory overload leaf, or will the overload need to be removed?

 

Yeah, you can mix/match them up how you want, except for the parabolics.

Our coils and leaf springs all work alongside OE parts, unless it lifts too much (like shocks too short, etc).

 

what kinda prices we talking?

I have two questions related to the parts I quoted above, the bush kit, and greaseable bolt.

The bushing kit has (6) bushings total. That's (1) for fixed end of leaf, (1) for rear leaf, (1) for shackle, so (3) per side and (6) total for the truck plus sleeves? Is that right?

The greaseable bolt administers grease to the inside of the the bushing sleeve? If so, is there a passage way for grease to get to the outside of sleeve (space between inner poly and metal sleeve?)

 

Hey man. I made a mistake about the bushings, it's 12 x 1/2 bushings, 6 full bushings total, 3 positions per side, including top and bottom shackle, and fixed end. With sleeves. (Just fixed it up top)

The greasable pin can only grease between the pin itself and the inside of the sleeve. There are no holes in the sleeve. I'm not sure what would happen to the sleeve if it was drilled to allow greasing, but none of our sleeves have that. The inside of our bushes have unique diamond shaped etchings in there to catch and hold the grease during installation against the sleeve. AKA, not smooth inside. When applying grease though, it should push out any stuff that's not grease, and then also grease the part that the most-outside part of the bushing rides against, whether it's the fixed mount, or the inside edges of the shackle.

On the greasable bolt, I understand how it works now. Thanks.

Wouldn't we want (2) greaseable bolts per side, (4) total for truck? Put one bolt to attach leaf spring to shackle, and one bolt to attach shackle to shackle hanger / frame?


On the poly bushings, I've worked with other vendor poly bushings, and they have for lack of a better term, lands and grooves which attempt to to a similar thing, i.e. capture the grease. But after install, no good way go regrease there. I've been wanting a solution since when the shackle rotates forward, (when spring flex), it's the leaf bushing rotating around the captured sleeve.

 

Yeah, greasable all around would be great, but that funky shackle design interferes with that a bit. We'd basically be better off doing a full greasable shackle by that point.

Yeah, I've worked with a few different bush kits before and have seen them use different techniques. I personally haven't used this type before with the diamond grooves. I like how it has a ton of very small sections basically to hold the grease. Since there are so many small grooves, and none connected to the outside, like the OME channels have, it makes sense to me that this should keep crap out for longer. What I know is that it's extremely rare to have noise complaints about our bushes or leaf springs, including in Australia. The Dobinson family has been making leaf springs since 1953, so I figure they know how to keep them quiet! haha

I'll have to ask them what would happen if the sleeve was drilled to, and what affect that would have on strength.

When you say the parabolic ones have spacers, do you mean blocks? Can you elaborate or show us an example?

 

When do you anticipate that these will be available? Any introductory deals or group buys on the horizon?

Sure. See the center of the spring, there are 2 sections of steel there (spacers). If those are installed under the main stack, they will provide lift. Otherwise with a standard install, it would just be 2" of lift.

Other features of Dobinsons Parabolic leaf springs:
1. Less leaves than equivalent standard design, which means it's able to flex more and has spring stack weight reduction over stock (5-10 pounds per spring).
2. Inter leaf polyurethane blocks reduces rust and wear between leaves, giving longer life of the leaf spring, less frction, and a softer ride with less noise.
3. More flexible design reduces shock on uneven roads, improving traction and ride (less skipping of rear end), reducing wear and tear on tires, and giving a good ride inside the cab.

 

We have an order of the medium and heavy load springs are due here in December. I'm already taking orders for these, so PM if interested. We're still not exactly sure when the parabolics will be coming. We have to get a set or 2 to test out first then order for stock.

I have greasable pins and the bush kits here in stock already.

 

those are some hella long overload springs!

I am interested to see pictures of the full leaf springs of every model with a better background as the pic above is hard to make out details.

Either way very interested... im pondering a new leaf setup in the rear of my truck for some time.

It's technically not, since it's a different type of leaf spring.

Once I get them into stock, I can get some proper photos. The photos that I sent there are from a Hilux spring, which is very similar to the Taco's.

Very intrested in them then. That LONG leaf spring like that should help SIGNIFICANTLY with axle wrap... which i have all sorts of problems with right now.
