Manual Transmission: Healthiest driving in a parking garage?

I park at the top of a parking garage at work and with a manual transmission this question has been bugging me every day when I'm parking. What is the healthiest way to drive up in the parking garage avoiding long term transmission damage to my new truck? I can't decide if it will be better for the truck if I...
A) drive up in 1st gear the entire time (slower of course never really exceeding 2000 rpms)
or B) driving faster starting in 1st gear then shifting to 2nd gear and then coasting in neutral till I get to the ramp to take me up to the next level then braking, downshifting into 1st to go up the ramp then repeating this process as I go up and up
any thoughts?

 

Well I think either way would be fine. I think it also depends on how long the straight aways are. You obviously dont want to be hauling ass through a parking structure, I dont trust other drivers

 

the straightaways are about 100 yards long

 

i bet you can make it up the ramp going second, which is better than 1st

 

its too tight a turn to make it up in 2nd and its a blind corner too

 

go in reverse? haha how do you like your AC? is it enough power with the 2.7l?

I didn't think this was actually a serious thread when I first read the title.

 

1st gear only, generally I avoid coasting in neutral. Especially on icy/snow covered roads, if you have to grab a gear quickly while you're coasting you run the risk of breaking the rear tires loose depending on speed and gear you select. I'd rather have the truck already in gear. (My bad, not alot of snow on the island.)

1st gear is really designed to get the truck and most vehicles moving from a stop. The truck will downshift into 1st but I'm sure you've noticed the difference between shifting into 1st from a stop vs 10mph, it's probably reluctant to downshift from 10mph. Less shifting = less wear on the clutch. It's OK to rev the engine.

 

just be really extra hard on the tranny so you get a new one before your warranty runs out. that's my plan. warranty is just a challenge.
