I am about to install Pop n' Lock #8521 in my 2006 Toyota Tacoma Access Cab.

I have and understand the wiring instructions that came with this unit.

However, I would like to alter the wiring in such a way that it requires two clicks of the key fob like you were opening the passenger door, eliminating locking and unlocking the tailgate each time to open the drivers door.

I am guessing it is as easy as splicing into the wires that actuate the passenger door lock rather than the drivers door.

Have you done this ? Do you know the wire colors and their locations ? Can you help ?

    Please advise. Thank you.

I want to do this also. I read a tread where it was wired to the rear door actuator so it would open in double remote click. Rear doors unlock tailgate unlocks.

I've done this, three times now (my former 1st Gen, my son's 1st Gen, and my 2nd Gen). In each case, I followed the instructions provided with the Pop & Lock, except spliced into the PASSENGER SIDE wiring. (Colors listed in the instruction were accurate for all three trucks.)

re: 2006 Tacoma TRD Sport Access Cab.

The picture below shows the little bundle of wires behind my passenger side kick panel.

I spliced and connected in the cab as follows.

Blue / Red (truck harness) to Green (Pop n' Lock)
Blue / Black (truck harness) to Blue (Pop n' Lock)

This opens the tailgate mechanism with two clicks of the unlock button on the fob along with the passenger door and locks the tailgate and both doors with one click of the lock button.

Pop n' Lock does not actuate when the drivers door opens with one press of the unlock button.

Appreciate your help Chris in providing me that link ! Thank You very much.

Yea, switching it to the passenger door should save wear and tear on the fragile Pop N Lock.

I did this when I installed mine, but for some reason I just habitually double click any way! It annoys me so much but I can't stop...

    I need help :(

I'm waiting for someone to figure out how to program it to the Panic button on the remote.
