    Hi,

Just got a new Black Tacoma 08 dbl cab TRD and I was surprised to see that the tailgate doesn't have a lock on it.

Any of you out there installed a lock on the tailgate?

I know that Ford and Nissan's tailgate can be locked and think it's a nice feature to have.

    Love the new ride!

pop n lock makes a nice lock for these TG's. look at the back of your tailgate, youll need a torx to fit those screws as you need to remove that entire panel (about 15 screws or so) to install the lock.
best part is that it looks oem :D

Mods? What's a mod? Bone stock, baby. Well, okay. Maybe a few smallish mods. If you count a locking gas cap, coin holder and a behind-the-seat trash bag.
Yeah, the Pop-n-Lock is a great modification. It's so well made that it looks like it's stock equipment. I have one and I like it a lot.

Can someone please post a pic of the pop-n-lock installed?

    Thanks

For those of us with '09s, I'm still waiting to hear if they will work with the back up camera.

I'm really starting to wish I had gotten SWB, though I do still love mine.

I also have a Pop n Lock. As you can see from Jansters pic, it looks damn near stock. Very easy to install, too. If you can't do this, you shouldn't own even a screwdriver.

I just received mine from Trdparts4u. I wanted to get the floor bolts and the pop-lock in the same order, and Trd had em both.

I just installed my Pop n Lock today... I had read that they were plastic, but mine is steel:confused: Is this something new? By the way, it only took about 15 minutes to install, so that + my hose clamp ought to keep my tailgate safe...

Is the handle steel along with the rest of the mechanism or is the handle plastic?

I just put mine on the other day- It uses the stock handle with the Pop and Lock add-on. The lock slides in underneath the existing handle- a few other things behind the panel and you are good to go.

Just be aware if you live in the north where they salt the roads that it WILL corrode! Mine was so jammed with corrosion/salt/sand after 1 winter I couldn't even get my key in to use it. Luckily I had not locked it during the winter or I'd be f'd now. WD-40, other lubricants, and some cleaners were unable to free the lock for me. Needless to say it's in the trash now. Waste of money IMO. Plus, there's only about 6 different keys for it so how secure is it really?

Leaving the rod spacers off meant it could be opened when locked. Putting them on as instructed meant it was a pain in the ass to open when unlocked. So disappointed in the product.
