At some point I'm going to get my truck re-sprayed. I want it to be a darker red because I do like deeper reds and burgundy colors and I want to to be close enough so I don't have go all the way to bare metal or have too much of a noticeable difference in door jambs. I like the new GM burgundy I've seen, it might be too dark to hide the jambs, but I'd like some opinion on it all as well.

I do like this color but it's probably too dark. The super duty color is good too.

If you're really going OEM, then I think the two darkest reds that came on the 1st gen Tacoma was

    Sunfire Red Pearl
    and
    Impulse Red Pearl

If you're not going OEM Tacoma colors, then I'd also look at the Maroon/Dark Red color Ford has on their Super Duties. I've always liked that one.

(I don't know anything about painting a vehicle, but don't you HAVE to sand it down all the way to the bare metal in order to have a quality job that'll last?)

As long as original paint has good adhesion there should no need to take it all off. Unless you are using a different type of coating. It might be different in the automotive paint though.

Sun fire red pearl is a good looking color as well

I think I've made my mind up. Thanks for the tip! Sun fire red it is.

I've had mine going on nine years now. Plan on driving it into the ground. I got around 6-7 quotes from reputable shops. Usually around $2000-$2500. Some were much higher but a mid level paint job is better than my faded paint. It looks kind of orange in the sun. And I have a new bedside that was re-sprayed and it's a good bit different in the sun, especially the sheen.
