I did something I shouldn't have last night, my question goes out to those with a DC,4x4, Sport or OR with 2.5" lift and 265/75/16"/17s what kind of realistic gas mileage with mostly highway.

For last 6 years I have been in a midsize truck, I love this size and had my mind made up was/am going to get a Tacoma. I was back at the dealer last night with my wife and daughter. The truck we dropped off for warranty work they needed 15 min to wash told us have a seat. Well we should have done that but I wanted to check out the Tacoma' stock. Dealer only had the on I posted about in another thread that's way overpriced. Then a limited and a 2/4 SR5. Dealer said they fly off the lot and he could order what I am looking for. Or he could make a better deal on a Tundra. So we walk to the next row and he has 12 2016 Tundra Crew max 4/4 with the 5.7 and TSS pkg.

I was not sure about the TSS offroad but the trucks are beautiful, all badges are blacked out, 20" black custom wheels, steps, KO2 tires. Long story short Wife and daughter fell in love with the storm trooper, and I love that one and the Magnetic Grey. I had a Ram 1500 HEMI once and well loved it but at that time my commute was 60 miles each way to work. Now only 30 miles. Love the Tundra would not have to buy wheels or tires right out of the gate. Would with the Tacoma. But would be very limited on lift options since parking garage at work is only 6'5. Decisions decisions.

I also liked the Tundra but realized I really didn't need the extra room and poor gas mileage. Check out fuelly.com, real world gas mileage from real people, not some biased web site. You can look up any make and model.

Keep in mind two things; initial "wow factor" and valuation/depreciation. Every car/truck is awesome within the first 5 minutes, but you have to pick something you love driving-you're going to spend a lot of time in it.

Secondly, I'm guessing here, but for the price of that tundra you could probably have that dealer order you a custom Tacoma, with everything you want. The value and depreciation rates on a Tacoma are some of the best of any vehicle out there, including the tundra. I almost bought a 2015 tundra tsx, but became skeptical of the value after the dealer informed me it was almost $15,000 more when it was new.....

Once I took off the factory tires, my truck has consistently gotten 14-16mpg highway (70+MPH). That's on 255/80-17, 265/75-16, 265/70-17, and the current 285/70-17. Now if you slow down to 55-60mph and don't use cruise, the truck will do 18mpg and I've even seen over 20mpg.

I understand at 55 to 60 around here I would get run over other day looked down was close to 100 had to let off. I was just staying with traffic in the left lane on I20, 14-16 puts me at about the same as a Tundra so hard to decide with one, I have a list of upgrades and the other an = size but different list of things to do.

Going 80-90 consistently lifted with larger wheels tires I get right around 16 mpg. I have an MT so gearing is lower. If I go 70 I get 20+ mpg.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. 55-60 on state routes with a 55 speed limit.

I switched to Tundra from 16 Tacoma and super happy. Yes it's gas sucker, specialty with 26 gallons tank you can see it draining. But the way new taco shifted, it drove me NUTS! Also I needed abigger truck for family, I was selfish when I bought Tacoma and kids were so tight in it. Now it's awesome. You can see my sig for mpg, I'm expecting improvement since it's brand new but not too much.
    Good luck with deciding!
