Does synthetic have the same time stamp as conventional oil? Conventional used to be 3 months or 3000 miles. Wondering if Synthetic as the same thing? Thanks

    No. Both are significantly longer.

Even API SN dino has a very long life now, about the same as syns of old.

3mo / 3k is an antique sales pitch for the oil industry from around the 60's that just hung around.

If you are still under warranty follow the recommended 5k change. You can take a sample and send it to Blackstone and they will tell you how much further you can extend your changes to.

There's no time stamp on either one. Only a lab test will answer your question, for your engine.

Many go 7,000-10,000 miles on synthetic oil.

As I mentioned above put synthetic in, change at 5k, take a sample and send it to Blackstone.

Depends on the manufacturer and engine, some want a 6 months no matter if the mileage is under the manufacturer guide and some want 12 month even if the mileage doesn't reach the maunfacture guide.

Moisture and acid buildup is the likely reason.

I just changed my oil this morning at 6 months/5000 miles and the oil I drained looked as clear as the oil I put in new.

    I use Mobil 1 synthetic.

I always change my oil every 6 months but i bet if I went a year between changes, it'd be fine.

Most likely. If you'd sent it off for a test, you might find it's good for much longer than a year.

Regardless of what folks will pile in here and say 'I'd never do that because xyz reason' the truth is in the lab work. Not the opinions.

Meh, no need to spend money on oil test. If it's clear, it's clear. I bet as long as it's not black, then it's fine

While you *may* be correct, its a roll of the dice. Discoloration comes from many things. However, just because (used) oil has clarity does not make a determination of its health. An oil test will.

5k here on Mobil 1 but I wouldn't bother me to go longer. I just do then because I also grease my shaft and rotate tires.

Synthetic typically good for ~10k, I would go ~5k on conventional.

While I agree that synthetic oils can go 10k or more, I like to change it a 5k for 2 reasons. First, the Tacoma maintenance guide say 6 months or 5k miles. Second, if I go to sell the vehicle some day in the future, I may catch flack from potential buyers for doing 10k mile oil changes. Yesterday I did the first oil change on my wife's new Camry at 5,225 miles. The synthetic 0w20 that came out of it looked almost new. Seems like a waste, but I feel more comfortable with 5k oil changes.

    Same as everybody else...
I change mine at 5 months or 5k with synthetic oil and a OEM filter. Blackstone report says I can extend that out to 6500k between changes but I stick to 5k. My oil change runs me about 30 bucks so we're not talking big money here and it's cheap insurance.Unless your operating in extreme heat or cold, tow alot etc, you can go either quality dino or syn oil with regular oil changes at 5k miles.
