I swear I'm done this time...
    Morning all!

I managed to back into the only Joshua tree in 10 miles and banged up my bumper and tailgate... Great excuse for a new steel bumper I couldn't previously justify and picking up a used oem replacement tailgate. Good bye $850!

This leaves me with a fully fuctioning (slightly wrinkly) tailgate sitting in my garage. I take two 4 gallon rotopax on overland trips but store them in a Thule top carrier I borrow from the old man for free because I have a sleep shelf/shell and don't want fumes/gas in the bed with me. I got to thinking I could bolt two rotopax mounts directly to my old tailgate and not add any more weight (Already have sliders, shell, sleeping shelf, KO2 spare and a heavy foot) of a tire carrier and wouldn't cost too much.

    Great story right!?

Has anyone else done this? Thinking I'll need backing plates or even a simple steel frame in the tailgate for the weight but I would love the guru's input, pics or ideas!

Thanks for all that you do and post.... Had a Tacoma for 7 years and never had to post because I always find what I need.

Looks like you will be breaking new ground.

Looked through many pics, and it appears the only Rotopax mounts on tailgate were on a tire carrier.
