    Hi

Had my 17 tacoma for 6 days..and after having my hands full of groceries and shit this having to remove the key from the remote everytime is going to drive me nuts ....

So I did some looking around and I can buy a pop and lock kit for 95 dollars...or just a universal door actuator for 5... plus I'll have to get some wires / loom covers.

My question is can I make this generic one work ?
If so where did you tap into ?

    Thanks in adance!

that generic one is probably some cheap chinese garbage.

From what I've heard the pop and lock is a nice system and works great plus comes with everything you need.
Worth the money from what I've seen.

Pop and lock is supposed to be no drill too, which the generic will likely need drilling and modification.

For just $5 it might be worth a try to see if you can rig up something.

I may also do this mod soon, and I'd use a generic actuator from Amazon. The entire mod can be done for $20 worth of parts, and actuators aren't exactly bleeding-edge technology that you have to buy from reputable sources. Doesn't make sense to pay $100 IMO.

if you find a good source for one similar to pop and lock so that its no drill let me know. or if you find a good source for something thats easy to modify for it to work.
If I find anything I'll let you know. Canadian market sucks at times for stuff and I'd rahter not buy pop and lock only because of the exchange rate and shipping cost.

For actuator power you'll have to run a wire from the battery. For the un/lock control, set your truck to open all doors when you open the driver's one (an option in the man dash unit's settings) and then tap the rear driver's side door.

could also just leave it and do the double press. depends on what you want. I don't like opening all my doors at once.

I doubt there will be a generic actuator that fits the available holes/structure in the Tacoma tailgate "right out of the box." That's the one advantage to the Pop & Lock product. If you're really against drilling inside the tailgate, you could grab a flat bar of any metal (such as 1/8" x 1" aluminum), drill holes in the bar that will match up with existing holes in the tailgate structure, and then mount whatever actuator you have to the flat bar. You'd essentially use the flat bar as a custom bracket and not have to drill the truck itself. Should be easy to do.

Oh yeah! I've had mine set to open all doors for so long I've forgotten the double press is even an option.
