Just brainstorming here:

Are you sure you have LED DRLs? Looking at wiring diagrams, it appears that some trucks may have bulb type DRLS. (Sorry if the question is insulting, I am just verifying assumptions and assuming nothing). I ask because with the bulb type DRLs there is a combined assembly with the parking light that might be affected when the headlights are on.

There is a common grounding point between the DRLs and headlights, but I would think a loose connection there would make the situation worse when the headlights are on, but I've seen stranger things.

It could be related to the load on the alternator: Noise source is DRL driver but extra load from the headlights or parking lights changes ground current flow enough to make the difference.

I think you can turn on the fog lights without the headlights. That might be something else to try.

You could remove the relay and operate with the DRLs activated (but not on because no relay) to make sure it's not something in the ECU that's generating the noise. That seems really unlikely, but easy to check.

You could also jumper across the relay socket to confirm the DRLs cause problems even without the ECU sending the DRL-On signal (I suspect they still will, but again, just an opportunity to eliminate a cause).

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, I have been out of town a lot for work. Consequently, I haven't had much time to work on the problem. Yes the DRL's are LED and I checked for loose connections also, and didn't find anything. I though that maybe the alternator also, but the noise stays constant and doesn't change with engine speed. That's about all I have had time to check so far. Hopefully I can get around to working on it sometime this week. Thanks for your help.

 

This is exactly what I was thinking.

 

I would have to guess that the DRL's when running by themselves are dimming to some degree. LEDs are dimmed using PWM which can cause unwanted electrical noise? Not really sure, just throwing ideas at the wall and seeing what might stick.

 

Have you been able to try any ferrite chokes? I THINK they have ones that you can "clamp" around the wire? I would do this as close to the radio as possible. But yeah, if it is "directly connected to the battery", WOW, I don't know what else to think as that IS the GND source! But, then again, a multiple GND source "signal" could be interferring as well... possibly!!!

 

Alright guys, got some time to focus on this today. Here is what I have come up with:
-Made from 12 gauge steel
-CNC plasma cut
-Press brake bent
-Has slotted holes for adjusting the slope of the bracket
-Available in left or right side configuration
-Can be ordered with 1/2" hole for CB or 3/4" hole for HAM
-Direct bolt on using original hardware on the truck
-C4 logo can also be used as a cable tie slot to hold the cable in place

That looks great! I like that it uses existing bolts to mount it. Are they stainless steel? Any idea on price? I need a left and right one drilled for Ham and one drilled for CB.

We will most likely have a run of them powder coated so we have some in stock to see how they sell.

These are not stainless, just mild steel. We could eventually make stainless if there is enough demand. price hasn't been finalized, but thinking somewhere around 30.00 each.
