Let's narrow this down. How often do you go off-roading/ are you planning on doing anything harsh on the trails. The OEM skidplate isn't that bad of a skid plate. Had my front wheels drooping from a trench and skid plate took the damage without any indications of a dint at all.

My skid plate was doubled over when I bought it. I pressure washed it, clamped it in the bench vise, started bending/hammering/ and shaping it back towards normal. After that I painted it, and my sons crawled under and we worked to bolt it on. It was hard to line it up. We put the front 3 bolts in just before tight. I put two big flat heads in the holes to align it. Just be careful when you start prying, you don't want to break something. Also one thing to note- we bolted the two pieces together in the shop, then installed it.

Good luck on it, let us know how it goes.

    Too much but not enough!
Ok so I'm in te process of converting my truck to 4x4 and I've put in all the front components but I need to know what holds the cvs inside the manual hubs. Some have a little c clip but the axle doesn't stick out far enough for the little notch on the axle to take a c clip, so the only thing I can think is a bolt goes into the threads with a big washer on it to keep it in the hub. Any help??
I can pull the axle pretty far out of the hub, I pushed it in as far as I could for the photo below:

There's a little bolt with a washer. The bolt is known for shearing upon removal so the dealer should have some.

I took the wheels off, the spare and painted the frame semi flat as well as the floor and all suspension. Replaced the two front rotors, pads. Changed the oil and filter. Last week she got four new shocks. Almost did the steering column fix....but decided that is a Saturday job just in case anything goes wrong.

Can't find a definitive answer, what kind of trans fluid does a first gen with an auto v6 take?

I just need to top mine off. I flushed it 20k miles ago and I don't recall what's in it now. I posted this here friday but no one answered my questions

I'm not looking to brand whore or anything. I just wanna know is it ATF dextron 3 or 4 or what. I been searching since Friday and finding a definite answer on TW or Google has proven impossible

I doubt you would have any problems just getting two quarts of the OEM swill that should be more than enough. But again the guys on BITOG research that shit like a cult and could probably recommend "if they haven't already done so for another tacoma guy" a parts store alternative that is just as good. I always hear them touting Valvoline Maxlife ATF but I don't have an automatic so I haven't tested it.

Right out of the owners manual from 1995, looks like it takes Dexron 2.... So any Dexron 3 or 4 fluid should be no problem, Valvoline Maxlife might be a good option
