Notice the locking hub isn't on the truck yet but the CV is in...

 

Let me go out to my truck and take a look...

 

I have two 2000 models and neither one has the bolt.
Not sure if they should or shouldn't have them?

This isn't the easiest thing to explain without a video, not sure if I'm getting anywhere.

It may be a deprecated safety measure

 

It's a circlip, behind the hub assembly. It prevents the stub shaft from falling through spindle assembly.
No c clips or otherwise on the outer end of the hub that i can remember.

 

This is what I've got:

 

I have no idea what the intent of the bolt was, it only tightens to the stub shaft itself. It's kind of redundant with the circlip.

 

I can pull it this far out and hear it clink on something

Need to look into better fuel mileage. The fill up every other month is really hurting the wallet

The circlip should prevent that. You are missing something..

The 4cyl is a thirsty monster, and I commute daily

 

I'm outta ideas here I put together everything I had

 

This what mine looks like. But i dont have the play (understatement) that you have my stub shaft will not move inward at all.

 

I'm going to take the whole hun off

 

I bet you are missing the circlip located behind the hub.
