I bought a tow hook that can handle 10k on the front of the truck and Im wondering if I should just keep a loop and use a shackle. I looked and havent seen much on the 3rd gen for this topic. I have also heard conflicting info about being towed out from the front. I know its better from the hitch but what if youre in sand or not deep in mud. wouldnt the sub frame be able to handle that..

I also ordered 3/4th inch and the loop in the front can only handle a 1/2inch shackle..

Suggestions on loops or hooks and tow hitch with shackle would be great. thanks!

    D-Ring Shackle > Tow Hook

A rope looped over a hook can slide off. A tow strap attached to a D-Ring doesn't come off unless something breaks.

It's got a cop motor, a 440-cubic-inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
The factory tow points are really for towing on roads and transporting the vehicles. It is not recommended to snatch from the factory point. if you have to, use a bridle on two points and be as gentle as possible. get a real deal recovery point if you need to be recovered.

Has anyone found a rated recovery point for the 3rd gen? Definitely something that should be considered for snatch recoveries

I think cbi sells one. it also has a 2" reciever if I remember. I just installed the southern style hybrid bumper which I think is pretty sweet!

I dont use anything but these. I keep a few gator jaws in the truck along with a 28,000 lb nylon snatch rope. I've pulled out stuck 1 ton dully trucks hauling huge trailers with 6 snowmobiles stuck in the snow with these. They are fantastic.

I was looking at that the other day, seemed a little pricey. I was wondering too about snatch points up front! All the 4x4s I have ever owned has always had two tow hooks up front, where I live snow and ice are what we deal with. Most of the time we pull a vehicle out by their front, getting pulled out from the rear is not always an option. I have seen the snatch hook on the passenger side and what they call the tie down, but can a snatch/tow hook be installed on driver side? What is a soft shackle?

Hey there, new to this whole offloading business. Why are the factory points no good for snatch recoveries? - I'm assuming you are also referring to the tow hook and tow loop on the front of the vehicle and not the tow hitch on the back.

    Thanks

100 bucks.... I just picked up a 10k hook with a thin metal strip to prevent the shackle from slipping off for 6 bucks.... I want exactly what this is except I have also heard it doesn't mesh well with the trd skid plate

Ok, now I know what a soft shackle is! Wow $42.99 for a nylon loop no wonder they named it bubba!

I usually hit 15+mph before that ropes snaps and pulls the truck out. Dont try that with a D-ring. You'll kill somebody.

I've pulled and been pulled out with chains and nylon snatch rope before and never caused any damage to either vehicle. It is a matter of making sure what ever you are towing with is secure and you take it slow. Trying to jerk something out with speed just tears things up, not really a good idea.

Looks bad ass and I want that grille.. The dealership said they can order and I can get it in a week. I just read on the site that it doesnt work with the TRD skid plate. You have to use a soft shackle.
