I haven't seen that thread yet. Do a lot of them use radar detectors as well?

I have one that works well that I got for free from filling out surveys on the net for 3 years. Every time it flashes and beeps, I just take my foot off the gas pedal. No tickets yet.

I know this an old thread but don't invest in one they are useless. Now that the coppers use laser, the radar detector is about as usefull as a paper weight. By the time the detector should have told you there was a speed trap, you will be driving away with your ticket. Want to speed, become a cop or a firefighter.

I've installed many lidar detectors/jammers. I've experienced them at work by watching the expressions and body movements of leo's as I have driven by them. (Not speeding) just driving down the roadway. But they are very expensive setups and require several hours of work by a professional to install.
Let's face it, certain cars attract lots of attention, sports cars in particular. I have heard numerous stories from folks in sports cars that have done no wrong, following posted speeds that constantly get tailed by the police for no other reason except they are driving a red or yellow sports car.

When I had a car I had a passport 8500...it paid itself off...and then I sold it when I got the truck. At 80+ it's just not worth the gas mileage.

I find myself driving slower now that I have the Taco. Still a great tool IMO if you know how you use it and are in an area that still uses radar. I only use mine when I travel out of state to Delaware and most cops there not only use radar but drive around with it constantly on. Agree on he point about laser, but many places still don't use it I've only been through a few areas that are using laser.

I would like to have a radar detector just because I would like to know if there are any cops around me. Usually don't speed too much (5-7 over) but I like to know just so I can be a little more cautious. I really would hate to be pulled over for not coming to a "complete" stop at a stop sign.
But if I were a cop and I pulled somebody over who had one stuck to their window I would automatically write them a ticket. If they've got one they are trying to hide that they are breaking the law and should get a ticket and not a warning because they did get caught.

Here in arizona, there are photo enforcement lights like every mile now, so speeding is close to impossible without getting caught. Plus, radars are basically non-existent now with them everywhere

^Yeah what Chris said! Some people will stand behind them because they spent the $300 plus for the supposed good ones.......I have an Escort 8500, it's ok but worthless when you're speeding in a Lexus IS and it's in your truck (yes I forgot to put it in the car). No but really, shouldn't be used as the end all be all when speeding. I drive Texas Highways all the time from Dallas to Austin and sometimes it won't even pick up the DPS pointing a gun at me.

If it was worth the money everyone would have one. Its like the lotto, its an extra tax for people who failed in math.

Err why would a cop use a speed gun at a stop sign?

I owned one and got pulled over with it.. It was working properly but the cops have new toys these days. I ended up taking it back, thought it was a waste of money. Also having a radar dectector makes you feel like you can speed without worry, and it stops you from looking for cops. Better to just be on the lookout.
