I think you're very right and I'm overthinking this. Those are awesome pics.
I have one last post on the matter for y'all. I think I found the best deal out of everything I sifted thru here.

https://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/pho/5843710649.html Might have to call in the @northwesttaco for a craigslist picking up favor :spy:

The T3i is considered a mid range (i.e the t3 being the entry level)
The D3200 is considered an entry level but it is obviously incredibly capable as well.

So here's my question. Why is the T3i a more expensive and considered higher end than a D3200 when the D3200 has a larger sensor AND more MP? Is it simply due to more manual controllability?

    Specs:
    http://digital-cameras.specout.com/compare/232-518/Canon-EOS-Rebel-T3i-600D-vs-Nikon-D3200

This article makes me want to go with the T3i for that price, but I believe we talked before that the T3i and D5100 "mid-level" class are too complicated and not worth the hassle for entry level?

Idk I think the T2i seemed really cool and it's worked awesome for you Ben... Anyways am I conveying my thoughts well here lol?

    I have a T3i and would recommend.

I wouldn't get a newer version than that unless videography is your main attraction to DSLRs.

Canon/Nikon just get which feels better in your hand. Really should get a feel for both before committing, ergos and menus are pretty personal.

Because the Canon is more versitile. Does video exteremely well and good pictures.

The nikon does pictures extremely well and does okay video.

I literally got another camera for video because i'm not crazy about the video my nikon does.

This is shot with my Sony RX100:

Does my nikon actually do great video? Well yeah...just more quirky. Not as much adjustability as i'd like. Plus i think its only 1080 at 30 frames....i think the Sony is 60 frames (but don't quote me)

Ugh just realized it has the flip out screen. I really don't like that. Seems so awkward. Photography is way more important to me than videography.
Well crap. More expensive camera for video purposes and sacrifices photo quality...? I really could care less for video.
    Dang.
    Cameras.
    What do you use?
What do you recommend for a newbie to DSLR?
Stick to the T3 or D3200 class?
    Or a T3i/T2i or 5100 class?

Currently I am going between a Nikon D3200 or Canon T3i

FWIW, I've been using Canon for a while now and I really like their ecosystem, but at the price range you're looking at there isn't much of a difference between the brands. I started with an original Digital Rebel, had a T1 for a year, an recently bought a T4i (best one so far, really loving it). The T4i was only $300 for the used body (only 70 shutter actuations :yay:) and two batteries. So if you are willing to go on eBay and spend another $50 for the standard 18-55mm lens that might be the way to go. I still had my lenses from cameras past.

Honestly Dakota the difference in photo quality from a T3i/T4i and a D3200/D3300 wouldn't be noticed if you're getting your settings right, shooting in raw, and doing your editing. Those cameras are 100% on par with one another for a reason. But again, if 90% of your interest is in the photos, i recommend the Nikons

Then it comes down to which one feels better, which one is easier for you to use, which one you can get a better deal on, which fanboy (diehard Nikon, or diehard Canon) do you want to be?

You didn't find the t4i to be overly complicated? What about the flip out screen? I feel like that will drive me crazy hanging out there like that while taking photos. Sounds like you got a good deal!
Most alerts I've ever had on here lol
Gotcha. Well I just was curious why the t3i was so much more but it appears just for their video capabilities. I think I would like a nikon better simply cuz it doesn't have a flip out screen. Oh well both seem good. I'll just wait for a deal. Hopefully they get back to me.

Do you know that the flip out screen rotates and flips back in so while you're using the camera it looks like a non flip out? my gf has a t3i that I started playing with after reading your camera shopping discussions. I found it neat that the screen can be flipped closed for a little extra protection when not in use
