Another thread reminded me of this, thought it worth mentioning in here. I don't know if it's been said yet but speaking of additional expenses to keep your truck running well when boosted, if you have a manual trans you should really look into upgrading your clutch. I'm on my 2nd stock clutch in under 40k miles and the second one's TOB is already chirping. I'm taking my own advice on the next one I buy. URD sells the Competition stage 2 clutch that's been highly recommended.

Damn, I didn't need to read that. I am at 74k on my stock clutch, was hoping to get at least another 25k out of it before looking into upgrading. Guess I'll start saving my pennies now.

I don't know what the holding power of a 2nd gen clutch is, but when I S/C'd my 3.4 I had a few years back I had no clutch issues. The truck had 80k on it when I put the charger on with a 2.2 pulley and 7th injector. I ran it until 110k that way and never had my clutch slip one time. Part of it depends on how you drive the truck, as well as how the clutch was broken initially in. Many times when people don't break in their clutch properly, it will develop a glaze over the disc reducing the amount of holding power the clutch is capable of.

Clutch longevity can be extended or diminished by driving style. My 1994 Civic had 130k on the original clutch and it kept going after I doubled the horsepower of the engine with a turbo setup. I'm not saying the stock clutch was sufficient for that level of power but I am saying it worked fine if I understood its limits and didn't dog on it.

Driving style definitley makes a difference. I never redline my truck (rarely go over 3.5k) and the stock clutch seems to be happy around there. But the damn throwout bearing is chirping again...it should last awhile though before I need to replace it.

I think there is a rubber boot on the side of the bell housing through which you might be able to access your Throw out to put a little grease on the metal to metal contact points. It's where the fork goes through to engage with your slave cylinder. IDK if this is actually do-able, just trying to think of a way you can trouble shoot it w/o dropping the tranny.

Thanks I'll see if I can access that...fortunately (I hope), Toyota warrantied the last stock clutch they put in on my truck over summer for a year, so before that warranty is up I'm going to see if I can get them to take care of it if I can't fix it myself. I'm going to look into buying a URD Stage 2 clutch though and having them put it in if they will, I bought a Stage 2 clutch earlier this summer and had a small independent shop do the work. They put it in backwards and it was toast after a week :( That's how I ended up with a stock clutch again, I needed it fixed asap and took it to Toyota. Man o man did I ever get raped on the cost of a stock clutch through them....never get a clutch job done at the dealership if you can help it.

Sounds like a pretty rough experience. I'm sure that stage 2 clutch will hold the power your S/C will make if you end up going that route.

My truck is about due for one real soon as well. I'm going to do the work myself if I can just find someone local to lend my a tranny jack.

For those of you looking for supercharger emblems, here is a less conspicuous option.

I like this one. Although I wish it was more of a matte silver background instead of chrome.
