Not sure if there's a constant hot back there or not, but I tapped the tail light. Obviously, you must have your lights on to use the dome light, but I generally have my lights on at night anyway.

The last 7-pin connector I wired on a trailer, there was a 12v constant hot.....seems like the center pin maybe....Yep....."auxillary".....12v constant. 7-pin is wired to industry standards from factory.

    Perfect. Thanks.
I'll confirm when I get home whether the plug is switched or constant.

I want to be able to switch light from the shell and not even open the cab.

Need to see if I have an in-line fuse holder and .5A fuse laying around too I guess.

I really like my bed lights. They originally were tied into the dome light, but I have since put them on a switch, and prefer that. They are the Tacoma/Tundra dealer option bed lights, and run about $65. I got mine from Toyota of McDonough Georgia.

Yeah. Those do look nice. I downloaded their instructions in case I wanted to wire mine that way but have noticed how most often I get things out of the shell without opening cab at all so independent switch will be better.

I've already got a led panel left from a multi-pack I got a while back.

So, are you one of those guys running paper clips or aluminum foil in your fuse holders?
    :p
Or, is that just GM guys...

    GM :D

Personally, the smallest I've seen/used is a 3A. All we use the blade type mini fuses.

    Well sunnabitch.
Lines on my trailer plug are all switched power.
I really don't want to run a line all the way from battery just for a dome light in the shell.

So I've pretty well got my route figured for my trip next summer, I just have to work on the details for a few hard dates, but otherwise plan on keeping it open for detours. This is what I have so far:

    Mount Rushmore
    Yellowstone National Park
    Glacier National Park
    Banff National Park
    Anchorage
Take a bush plane to Dick Proenekke's cabin at Twin Lakes, camp overnight, then back to Anchorage
Seattle, WA and pick up the wife from the airport
    Portland, OR
    Redwood Forest, CA
    San Francisco, CA
    Yosemite National Park
    Monterey, CA
    Santa Barbara, CA
    Huntington Beach, CA
San Diego, CA and drop wife off at the airport
    Joshua Tree National Park
    Sedona, AZ
    Grand Canyon
Four Corners Monument, might also try to hit Monument Valley, and if possible go see The Wave.
    Durango, CO
    Ouray, CO
    Grand Junction, CO
    Estes Park, CO (Stanley Hotel)
    Colorado Springs, CO (Pikes Peak)
    Pueblo, CO
    Amarillo, TX
    Marfa, TX
    Big Bend National Park
    Del Rio, TX
    Luckenbach, TX
    Austin, TX
    Head home.

Looks like around 13,000 miles give or take for side trips and whatever else might come up. If anyone has anything they think I should definitely do or see, give me ideas. I'm going to start a dedicated thread for it after the first of the year related to route, things to do/see, and what I need to set the truck up with.

4ish. Right around 28-30 days. It's a post-graduation, pre-employment gift to myself. A buddy of mine has volunteered to ride shotgun with me, and the wife will fly into Seattle and do WA, OR, and CA with us. I don't know when or if I'll ever get the chance to do something like this again, so I want to hit as many high points as possible. The plan is to camp as much as possible along the way, and only stay at a hotel every 3rd-4th night to freshen up/do laundry/etc. We will get groceries along the way and prepare food at the truck unless there is some really good local spot that we have to check out. Should be a true overland trip, although I doubt we'll do much actual offroading due to time constraints.

That sounds a lot like my plan, just twice as long.

My D ruined the plan though since Tacoma won't fit 4 children plus wife.

    Guess I'll need a 4runner with 3rd row seat. ;)

Good plan to do it while you can.

I really wish I had the time/funds to have an adventure trailer with RTT on it built by then. It just isn't in the cards though.
