Hi. New guy, yet old. :)

So my predicament is upgrading my 06 TRD sport to an 16 trd sport. My question is for anyone who has previously owned a 2nd gen sport. Is the upgrade really an upgrade?
Case in point. Stereo sound. Whats the stereo sound like, i know on my 06 the sound is actually decent for a stock unit. I mean its no Nakamichi,(old nakamichi, not the new crap that actually isnt nakamichi.Old guys you know what im talking about) but for a truck its pretty ok. How is the new one in comparison?
2nd. Glove box or lack there of. I briefly looked at the glove box and WTF is up with that. Is that toyota just cheaping out or is it actually functional?
3rd. Grab handle on drivers side, i know this is in fact toyota cheaping out. I rarely use the handle but its nice to have.
4th. Fit and finish? I drove the 16 for a while and it seemed pretty good but didn't notice much of a difference from my 06 other than steering wheel is fatter and not leather.
Any other differences you can tell me i regards to updrade? I mean i only have 120 k on my 06 and dont know if i would actually be upgrading other than new body style and dash etc. Its still basically identical in terms of drive train other than 6 speed tranny.
Also. I tow my 22 ft trailer which weighs around 5000 lbs loaded and the 06 has no problem at all towing. The new Atkinson motor i am curious about its towing capability. I could drop over to toyota and ask them these questions but they dont know jack squat and will just blow smoke up my ass.
    Thanks for the info.

Buying trucks for stereo? The JBL is ok, but if you are a true sound guy, you will go aftermarket anyway.

3rd gen fit and finish isn't as good as gen 1, but its modern day Toyota. Sit inside a Land Cruiser and sit inside a Sequoia and you can tell the difference. If you want fit and finish buy a 4Runner Pro. If you want a good solid truck, buy a Tacoma.

Atkinson can tow just fine. Just get used to higher RPM towing.

I had a 2nd gen '06 and now my '16 sport. Huge upgrade for me. The interior is modern, and has all the gadgets I would want in a new vehicle. It drives nice and tight. No problems.

Welcome, and old is relative, youre only as old as you wanna be! :)
Test drive several and see if it's worth the 'upgrade' you are looking for, only you know what you want. I happen to love mine, but I didnt have a truck before either, so it's an upgrade from a beater car, lol. If I could afford to, I'd buy a 4Runner as well, maybe check those out too? Just get what you like!

The new truck is quieter, has more power (though in a higher rpm band), better radio interface, touch screen functions, more feedback to the user, better fuel economy....... It's a better truck in most aspects. That being said, your current ride has a bunch of miles left on it.

Thanks. Yea no. It has to be a truck and has to be toyota. I have a quad ,bike etc so im always hauling something around. I love the new style and interior but dont want to drop a bunch of cash into a stereo. My 06 as i say is not too bad at all for a stocker. I was pleasantly surprised.

I went from a 2006 TRD Sport 4X4 DC to the same thing in 2016 model. Huge upgrade... I love it .. well worth the trade.
I live in the Great White North... the "White" stands for SALT, so I had the '06 Corrosion Free'd every year... I had NO frame issue, as the other '06's were falling apart all over the place.. It only had 115,000 KMs on it and I got a great trade-in value...No damage..no rust.., but It was time to change... 10 yrs old and things Will start to fail.. Besides, I can afford it and the kids pissed me off, so I'll spend their inheritance now.. and enjoy it....

Love this truck... sure, I had to fill the tranny...had to fill the '06 also... had to grease the zerks on new one... I do that on all my trucks anyway....

Seats are more comfortable than what I had...great stereo, but I'm not a "afficianato" (sp)? I like the USB input for MY tunes..

And last, but not least... this one is INFERNO...!!!! Best colour Toyota ever made..

Go ahead and upgrade...get rid of the other one "before" major repairs and rust drops the resale value..!!

This all said, that if you can afford it easily...don't go out on a limb to buy a new one..!

    That's my 5 cents ($0.02 US):canada:

The quality of my 2001 is head and shoulders above my 2017.

Do you know the difference between quality and technology? From your silly posts, you don't seem to understand what the OP asked and what I answered having real life experiences

Appreciate it guys. I will probably buy one in the very near future and sell my 06. I think about now its at its highest resale value and its in real nice shape,no rust.

But but. What about that glove box? :)

I mean, I can't fit a KO2 in the glovebox, but it is fine for a glovebox, and not something that would prevent me from buying a 2017, the sexiest of All Tacomas evah!

Had the moonroof on my 16 TRD OR 6MT. Made the cabin feel airy and it was fantastic.
