Axle Rebuild Recommendations

Okay guys... blew up my rear end this weekend at AOP in South Pittsburg Tennessee. Diagnosis? Axle shafts, Ring and Pinion, spider gears, and locker clutch pads are all shot.

Thing is, stock Toyota parts broke, and will break again, so I'm looking to upgrade a little bit. We all know Toyota parts are pretty overpriced as well

That being said I'm lookin for recommendations! I'm looking for stronger, more reliable parts. I'm looking at Nitro Ring and Pinion gears right now running for $220.

If anyone has any experience or recommendations please post em up. I need a place to start!

BTW it's a TRD OR 05, so 8 inch rear end with E locker

You doing the gear set up your self? If you find a local shop to do they set up make sure they are familiar with yota stuff as they are notoriously screwed up by a lot of installers.

 

Do you have an exact diagnosis yet?

And you really broke the axle shafts? Normally it's just the ring gear that eats itself.

 

Oh no, I have Toyota doing it! They just agreed to use whatever upgraded parts I give them!

 

Axle shafts aren't toast, but a slightly chewed up. Figured I'd upgrade while I have the thing apart

 

complains about OEM prices, but pays for dealership labor and incompetance.... LOLOL

 

All kinds of crap is jacked up in there. Ring and pinion are in pieces, spider gears included, and the axle shaft splines got a little chewed up

 

Dealership labor is cheaper than any local shops. Don't have the time to learn and do it myself right nOw unfortunately, either way I trust the mechanic doing it and he will use whatever parts I bring him

 

The Dynatrac Prorock will be cheaper than toyota doing the work, even if you aren't using their parts..

Find a new third and put it it yourself or take it to the shop to install. Takes an hour in the driveway. There are no upgrades for Toyota R&P, just replacement sets. You can get chromoly axles but axle breaks are exceedingly rare with less than 40's.
