Why would you? What's your reasoning behind it? Is it a good move financially?

If you want it and have money for it, go ahead. I looked at some 2015's when I bought my Tacoma. Compared to the 2016 wouldn't have bought a 2015. Felt like a truck from early 2000's, which basically it is. Though, personally if I had a truck that was only 1-2 years old, I wouldn't spend money on a new one.

Upgrade to a 3rd gen, and inherit all the problems associated with them.

    Keep the 2nd gen.

    Edited for you.

I like them both. Looks like my 2nd gen is getting totaled, so upgrading to a 3rd gen is a no brainer.

Financially probably doesn't makes sense but that aside the '16-'17 is leaps and bounds a nicer truck. Most of the naysayers aren't even 3rd gen owners and are just talking out of their ass.

That's when you can take it to the beach, after all the dealer service visits.

Love my '16. Yes there are a few issues associated with the new gen but if you get a manual transmission you'll have less issues! Grease your u-joints, torque your u-bolts, and drive it!

no no no you're doing it all wrong! You go to the beach BEFORE the service visits, that way the bikini clad Tacoma groupies come along to the dealership and we all have a service party....

come on everyone knows this :)

    Basic overland stuff...
I had a '15 OR, '16 Limited and now a '17 OR. I prefer the 2nd gen motor but that's about it. I only have one issue and that will surely be corrected with a ECM TSB. Truck sits higher, is more refined, and IMO looks better...

I like the look of the 3rd Gen. I would get an SR Access Cab 4cyl manual. Financially it's probably not a good move but if I get the right amount in trade value it's almost a wash.
When I got my truck the 2016's were just coming out and the dealers I was going to in my area didn't have any. I was trading my 2011 Ford Ranger, they took three grand of the sticker on the Tacoma and gave me a real good trade value on the Ranger. I didn't want to pass it up as the 2015's were selling fast at the time.
As far as being dated the 2015 Tacoma is way ahead of the Ranger.

Traded my 2015 for 2016 and haven't had any issues. I really liked my 15 but, love the 16.
