I wonder if it would work with an RCI. I think it wouldn't

Why can't one be mounted on driver side? Wouldn't it by mounting on same part of frame as passenger side?

I thought about that too and I think it would as the RCI looks like it isnt as flared in the front

I don't have the TR skid... probably not getting one either, thinking about going with something else. I don't like the color of the TRD skid.... like Pilfrey or something similar.

RCI here you can see the tow hook to the left of the skid plate. The hook gets replaced with the bracket that holds the shackle. Tied to the frame.

Looking at the right side close up, it looks like you could drill two or three new holes to mount a hook on that side, unless I'm missing something! I have TRD skid plate on my truck I will have to check it tomorrow.

The hook on the passenger side of a TRDOR is most certainly meant to be pulled from. But not the tie down point on the drivers side.

Remove factory hook, install recovery point. You need shorter bolts though.

My 2nd Gen owners manual says the passenger side hook can be used to "tow the vehicle short distances on a level surface" That said I've used it to recover from and pull logs/atvs etc. I replaced my sport model small loop with an aftermarket point that can accept a shackle.

Before i ended up replacing it, I filed out my factory point to take a 3/4 shackle. Note that I filed out the part near the "bend", to compromise the strength as little as possible.

After being part of this discussion last night, I have been on a quest to find a tow hook for the driver side of my OR that I dearly love, it makes no sense to me why there isn't one! Every 4x4 I have ever owned has had one on both sides. I have looked on different off road web sites, other truck manufactures and even the 4Runner forum. I have read posts on the other toyota forums and apparently I do not understand the difference between a tow hook/tie down point/recovery point! After reading some of the other model forurms I am not the only one! I figure my best option is to find another truck makers tow hooks that I like drill holes and weld them on. I just want to be able to use a chain/strap to pull or be pulled out of snow or mud if I were to spin out and leave the roadway when pulling out of the mall! I prefer a tow hook up front for two reasons #1 noise factor, a shackle will raddle or viberate #2 two big hooks up front looks badass and they work just as good as shackles if you know what you are doing. I don't plan on being a tow truck, up righting another vehicle or pulling someone that is buried in the mud or snow so deep it would take a catapillar to get them out. So I think my plan will work just fine! :frusty:

I know Aussiek2000, I want one on driver side too! The one on passenger side won't work on driver side or I would just get another one. One funny thing I did learn while researching the other model threads is they ain't any different then us, they bitch about theirs too!
