I had a Buick that used to stall all the time. Granted it had a vacuum leak... and I never changed the oil... and...

Source please on the "research from Toyota". Best I can find says about $1k (granted 2010), though it's not as if there is a great way to track this. I doubt the average TW member spends 5k, much less the hundreds of thousands that aren't members. I see countless tacos that are bone stock.

I've never seen a Toyota with a proximity sensor that wasn't a push start, so that'd be a new thing. Would certainly be cool though.

The push start isn't like a key. One push and it cranks the engine until it starts. You wouldn't be able to cancel the start attempt as easy as you would with a key.

I went back to Toyota site and checked again on the proximity sensor. I was wrong.. I guess it was my wishful thinking.

The average taco owner must have a hell of a lot more money then me to waste I guess. I would not invest another 10k in this truck if my life depended on it.

    I haven't read every
I haven't read every response to this thread but AFAIK there isn't anything unusual about "push to start" and Tacomas so I'm unsure what got are asking. If you are asking about the clutch start cancel button in the manual transmission Tacos it has nothing whatsoever to do with "push to start". All it does is bypass the neutral safety swith to allow you to either start the truck without pushing in the clutch while in neutral or to use the battery and starter motor to move the truck forward or backward while in first gear or reverse. It's been a Toyota truck feature for decades and in spite of what Toyota claims I've never found a use for the feature when offroad no matter how bad I have been stuck. If you just want to know how to push start a manual transmission Taco it's just like every other manual transmission vehicle. Turn the key on, push in the clutch, put it in second gear, and have someone push the truck until you get a bit of speed up and pop the clutch. If it doesn't work you just need to move the truck and little bit faster and try again.

If it's an automatic transmission I am unaware of any way to "push to start" the truck. Maybe remote start is what you are interested in?

Did you even skim? The OP is wanting push to start with a MT and others have stated that it's not an option because a push to start and the clutch cancel can't work together in harmony.

Yes I did. Maybe I had a mild stroke or have a case of adult autism because discussing "push to start" and "clutch start cancel" in the same sentence is...stupid. They are completely unrelated. Harmony? WTF?

What am I missing other than crawl control though? Still have ATRAC, still have a locker, but don't have to deal with the sluggish auto and I can row my own gears. Plus it was cheaper

I was happy when I found out I wasn't getting the "push to start" button, but instead getting a good old key, figured less shit to go wrong.

I do wish the door unlocking with proximity would have been nice, but oh well.

Oh and the clutch cancel is the manuals craw control feature. Some where I posted a video talking about it.

Crawl control is to get unstuck in sand/mud. Clutch cancel is to start a truck on a hill without clutching and rolling back

I think there's confusion over the term push-to-start.. pretty sure OP is referring to the button that starts the vehicle. Aka "push button start". Not the idea of rolling a vehicle down a hill and popping the clutch. That's not a feature lol. Unless manufacturers are now listing that as a feature. If so that's kinda sad..

Hang around awhile. People come on here asking the silliest shit and some people give the most screwed up answers. After awhile nothing is surprising. Not everyone has owned a truck before. Or driven a vehicle. Or been outside or read more than six words in a row....
