I did sell a 2014 F150 5.0 Automatic select shift with 9,900 miles and a 2008 Tacoma Prerunner V6 double cab with 60,000 miles in great shape to buy my 16 Taco. You do not have to tell me how good Ford trucks are. I had a few. Also had several great Tacomas too. Just don't need the full sized truck and this V6 Taco blows away the V8 F150 in the mpg game. By a ton. At least 5 mpg better in city driving. Also is better than my Prerunner by at least 2.5-3 mpg in town. Just did not have a lot of confidence in the F150 V6. I guess they have honed the engines better now. Initially they had turbo issues which steered me back to Toyota. When they get the Toyota transmissions fixed I will be a happy camper. Just seems like a long slow process getting the right fix. That is the only complaint I have with my truck but the longer the wait the thinner the patience. I have a Ford dealer less than 1 mile from me and I pass it several times daily. These end of year discounts are awesome but I still insist on waiting for my tranny resolution. Just hope I don't regret the decision in 3 or 6 or 12 months.

Once you learn how to work your foot and pay attention to the tachometer, its not bad at all. Ill get the TSB done one day.

If I am sort of in a bad mood or tire or grumpy for any reason, driving my Tacoma makes me seething mad. If I'm in a good mood, it can spoil it.

I'm getting to the point where I really need to decide if I can put up with this shit anymore or if I should eat a couple grand loss and get a 4runner...or switch away from Toyota completely.

So you are telling me that after 42 years of driving I need to learn how to drive. And for 42 years all of my transmissions shifted wrong. And my previous 45 or more vehicles were improperly controlled by my foot on the gas pedal. And all of my prior tachometers worked different than my 2016 Tacoma tachometer. That makes perfect sense. WOW. How in the world have I been driving my entire life. I feel so stupid now. Is there a book or a video that can teach me how this junk, I mean modern, Toyota transmission properly operates. What about the big round thingy with the buttons in it that makes the truck go different directions when I mess with it. Please tell me more so I can correct the mistakes I made teaching my adult 3 kids to drive. What are the big round rubbery spinny things that roll around on the ground. Is there a name for them. Do they have like air or water in them. Give me a break. Are you a Toyota tech or something. You sure sound like the last service advisor I dealt with.

This is the type of thing I've dealt with from people on here about my brake pedal pulsating and buzzing. "Thats normal brake accumulator stuff. Get used to it!"

NO VEHICLE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN HAS THIS "CHARACTERISTIC". It's not normal. The response shouldn't be "learn how to deal with it" when something isn't working properly--especially when you are paying as much as we are for these trucks.

@Toyota Tacoma die-hards, its okay to admit that these things aren't "okay". It doesn't mean you're dumb for liking Tacomas.

Agreed, I did have the TSB done and haven't had an issue since. Problem I had pre-TSB, R to D surge that's it. What I love about the TSB update is the on demand shifting, lots of speed when I need it. The power band is not low it's up high great for freeway driving. Been getting 26-28+ on freeway driving. Last Tacoma I owned was 2012 OFF Road, my 2016 feels much stronger and faster. So, Raced a buddies 2015 TRD off road the other day on the way to an event we were both going to. We were even until I hit 25-30 then I left him in the dust...

Btw had TSB 2,200 miles ago.

What ultimately made my mind up was my 2016 Tacoma wouldn't pull my boat, but my 2014 Tacoma pulled it beautifully. Toyota told me this is how they are and I called BS on that! I've owned 9 Tacoma's and my 2016 was a piece of crap, 12.5 to 13.4 MPG on the 2016 Tacoma. On a 55 mile trip (back to the Toyota dealership) on a flat road with no wind my Tacoma shifted from 4th to 5th to 6th and then back down to 4th in cruise control over 35 times and Toyota says this is okay? I really think I got stuck with a lemon, but after no solutions with Toyota and the dealership, I got out of it and got the F150. I didn't feel confident enough that Toyota would stand behind their issues and resolve them, plus I had a very bad Toyota Case Manager (Casey) who said all he deals with this issue all day long and nothing is wrong with the trucks. I think my truck was one of the worst ones I read about on here though. I feel for the person who got it after me. I still watch this forum to see if Toyota can correct their problem for the loyal Tacoma owners still holding out hope that their purchase wasn't a mistake like I believe/know for a fact that mine was.

I was in a very bad mood EVERY time I drove my 2016 Tacoma. I'm glad I don't have it anymore. Cost me a bit, but now I'm a much happier driver!

After reading the 2,462 comments and driving the 2017 Tacoma for the first 219 miles, it appears the only way to drive it is with ECT on. Even with S4 or S5, the first 4 gears have no power and shift way too early. My Jeep on 37s and 3.21s has more torque at 2k than this new truck. And that's a minivan engine.

Too bad the ECT doesn't stay on permanently - not have to turn it on for every drive.

Figured i'd jump in here too. I only have about 700 mi on mine and admit i have been scratching my head on the trans . It does search for gears too much . A few times now it his really hit hard down shifting. Definitely will keep following this thread. I will say i don't think it's as bad as day one , maybe i'm getting more used to it. Other than that I love the truck.

Hey, looks like the REVISION TSB includes hunting gears going up slight inclines. has anyone noticed the difference after the revision? also, any trouble getting the revision after already getting the first TSB?
