Well, I hear. I have no experience with such things. Or anything like it. Nope. Not me.

Well, 2 is better than one! Back in my younger days when I would 4 wheel I got stuck several times and if it wasn't for having one on both sides I might still be there! Now it's more principle or old age I guess.

Update that 6 dollar hook wont fit because it needs longer bolts and they are the wrong thread...

If I remember right the old 80's Hilux only had 1tow hook. And none of the big three started to offer them until the mid 80's

well the front loop cannot receive the 3/4 shackle so I either have to go to hook/larger loop or settle for a 1/2 shackle. i doubt Ill be so stuck that it requires 10k worth of towing lbs but if I have to tow out a larger truck or wench myself out I guess there is always the rear. I cant believe there are not more options for this at an affordable price.

I was able to file my sport loop to accept a 3/4 shackle, just grind the part towards the "bend", that will not compromise the strength of the loop. Looking at it I've recovered using smaller gauge chain (not ideal but what I had on hand at the time) the loop is rated for towing short distances on flat surfaces, but we know that one can use it for more than that. Also I rounded the sharp edges, better for using soft shackles.
    Price? $Free.50

I want a rated recovery point that I can use a snatch strap from, or if I'm doing some heavy winching I can double up on the line with a snatchblock and have a place to hook onto the vehicle.

The front point is rated per the manual to tow the vehicle on flat surfaces for short distances. Like the expiration date on milk we know this is a low rating. I've pulled stumps, and dragged atvs out of the woods with the front point. Only light recoveries though to be honest. If you need something better, an aftermarket bumper or front tow hitch will be the way to go.

most bumpers aren't rated for snatch recoveries either though.
I'm going with ARB bumper at least and its not rated for snatch straps.

Might just go to a local 4x4 shop and see if they can fabricate something to weld or bolt to the truck that would be rated for a full recovery.

Put a winch in the arb, personally never seen a snatch recovery that couldn't instead be done from the front with an 8k winch/ snatch block, but I've only seen a few. But I guess there could be a situation in the desert with no place to winch to but another vehicle, and that could drag the truck you are winching from.

Could bridle the front to the recovery point and the tie down, if the tie down breaks free it will be retained by the bridle, just an idea. I would just use the recovery point. I've used it without bending anything behind it, and that was with a winch, not a snatch however. I've also used the point as the place I hooked to back from my snatchblock, no problems.

ya pretty much my concern. not desert but just ever in a place where I have nothing to winch from instead have a snatch recovery.

Ya I'll be running the winch most of the time.
I'll see from the shop that's installing the bumper for me if they can fabricate something as well.

They're pretty big with Toyota builds here so might have something they can do.
