Is that that time? Did your Cranial Rectosis get the best of you so you can't concentrate and run off to your safe space?

Ummm they didnt forget to put the oil in a truck with a new engine either. They blew his 15k motor and are installing a 9k motor. Very fair. Grow up dude. Its moronic to expect a new motor when the truck had 15k on it. They are being more fair than they have to legally and you are crying about new motors. You gotta be a millennial.

I think this is a very good result. My compliments to the dealership.

No. he worked for Toyota in the 80's. He's just a grumpy old fart with nothing better to do.

To those that disagree, maybe start another thread asking if this was a decent outcome?

We love this place, just don't shit up the op's thread by going in another completely different direction.

My compliments to the op. Thanks for keeping us updated.

Did I say it was not fair? I clearly don't think it's right that he has an engine that He has no history of that very well could have been run low on oil or has had other major engine work done.

You are not being realistic dude. No jury will award him a new motor to replace a used motor and thats what they broke. A USED MOTOR.

I guess that's what you would settle for and that's okay. Me on the other hand would not settle for anything less...And again I am happy for OP getting some resolution in the matter.

Good deal OP. Glad the dealership was honest enough to admit the engine was damaged and take care of you...I'm sure plenty of other shops would not.

Hope you are back up and runnng soon. I assume they'll continue to offer you free oil changes for the remainder of the Toyotacare. :crapstorm:

I'm with you. What information do we have about the new to op motor. What if it was in a head on wreck? Or been completely torn down for major repair work? If it was me I wouldn't be trading that truck in for a new one. Let Toyota sell that bitch to someone else and make you whole on trade value.

Curious if OP contacted his insurance? Insurance would only replace st current valu or useage, they would have tried to get him a 15 k motor. Would be interested to see how they warranty this work. I would require more than original powertrain

@IPNPULZ might be on to something.

The OP knew how well his 15K engine was taken care of. Now, through no fault of his own, he is getting a 9K engine with no known history. Was the engine in an accident, or replaced because it to was also run without oil? Who knows?

The OP should probably get a new engine, just so a proper history can be established without unknowns.

jlee. sounds like it may be a good resolution. A couple things to confirm are what is the history of the motor (i.e. what happened to the vehicle?). I would want to make sure you know the approx production date (e.g. make sure its not a motor from 2007 that has been sitting in a junkyard since 2008 collecting water etc). And, how will the original Toyota warranty and powertrain work...will the same warranty period/mileage apply or what?

Provided that you can get comfortable with the used motor they are putting in and clarify the impact to the original warranty you received when you purchased the vehicle, this might be an acceptable fix.

BUT....a couple things stick in my mind about what you stated.

    1. The dealer is again lying to you about there being no long block available. If you look at my post 150 on page 8 of this thread and click on the links it will take you to the toyota parts schematic for a replacement motor. Sure looks like a long block to me and has a Toyota part number - now how can that be? Toyota is lying or perhaps they are lying?. Now, the answer might be that they simply don't want the expense to replace the long block and would rather take this approach, but there is one thing I cant stand and that is being lied to. It also makes me wonder what other things they are trying to pull.
    2. This is vindication for most of us on the thread, that the dealer were full of shit to begin with. A number of us stated that if the motor stalled because of oil starvation the damage was done. They pooh-poohed your concerns and said "oh no...there was probably still enough oil left (0.8 qts) to not cause damage". I believe you also indicated they even stated that they used a bore scope initially and didn't see any damage. At the time, I called bullshit because they couldn't have scoped each cylinder that quickly and they also didn't bother to do a compression test which they could have easily done being as they had to remove the spark plug from each cylinder to do a borescope they should have also spent another minute or two per cylinder to run a compression check.

All of this tells me not trust these guys and you need to make sure you have everything documented in writing from them on where the engine is from, how it came to be salvage and see if you can run down the VIN of the vehicle it was originally installed in. IF they bitch and moan about not trusting them, you can remind them that they seem to have been lying and full of shit from the beginning....and a bunch of amateurs from Tacoma World forums were better able to diagnose and foresee the damage they had done. So after they get the motor replaced they also owe you a HUGE apology for bullshitting you. We knew and they damn well knew they were lying...and there is nothing worse than liars that cant own up to their mistakes. Once you get it resolved, I recommend you reveal the Denver Metro area dealer where this went down so we all have fair warning about their business practices. I would not spoil the relationship until you have everything resolved to your satisfaction.

You are making progress and are almost there with what appears to be a valid solution. Dont let off the gas and get soft on them. You have every right to make sure you are comfortable with this solution and have acceptable documentation this is a low mileage equivalent motor (remember they seem happy to lie....oh did we say 9K miles......uh.....yeah....turns out it was 59K miles?). They have put themselves in a position that you need to trust but verify they are accurately representing their resolution.

Hey. Most of the threads I read around here about people wanting free crap from Toyota start with, "I have been buying Toyotas for x decades!". You boomers I'll tell ya...

You would actually have no choice but to settle for less because you have no ground to stand on. This is no different than a crash. No insurance company.... and I mean not one on Earth will buy you a new car when your gets wrecked. They pay what the car is CURRENTLY worth. So why should a company give you a new motor when their client damages your used motor? So you may not want to settle for a used motor but thats all you will get. Nothing more, guaranteed.

OP....I think what you're getting seems fair. I would be curious where the used engine came from and what year it was. I would also confirm that the rest of your 3yr/36k and 5yr/60k warranties, with regards to the engine, are still intact...and I would get that in writing.

And I would also request a factory extended warranty on at least the powertrain. They may not go along with that. But it doesn't hurt to ask.

    Glad this is bring resolved.
