With my crappy 2015 Tacoma Super White one stage paint looking like crap every time I looked at it and the underpowered 2016/2017 Toyota Tacoma transmission/engine issues, I broke down and got the 3.5 liter Ecoboost. 0-60 in 5.8 seconds. I am getting 18 mpg driving "somewhat" sensibly in it. 380HP and 420 Foot Pounds of torque. (rated at 22mpg highway) Panoramic sunroof, navigation and tailgate step. 11,000 pound towing. Trailer backup assist. Dropped off the 2015 tacoma with 10,000 miles and stroked a check for 18,000. (Window sticker is $51,800) I will be back to Tacomas one day, but Toyota has allot of work to do if they want to stay number one for small trucks.

Here is the Taco that I traded. One year old and the paint was waxed twice and clay barred. Was very disappointed in the quality of paint. Looked at super white trucks that were 5 to 10 years old and they looked like a flat matte finish. I had to get out of that one. If it was silver or gray, I probably would have kept it.

I am looking on line now at F150 deals. I could not fit my 2014 ext cab in my 24 x 24 garage as my benches and tool boxes killed the forward end. Now I am looking at configuring the garage to fit another F150. I too would prefer the 3.5 over the 2.7. Seems like it has enough power. Have not given up on my Tacoma-not quite yet-but am watching for the right F150 to make me decide. Really sucks too. I only owe $11k on the Taco. That is a sweet Ford you bought. What was the actual selling price. Mine would be less being an extended cab. What is yours a XLT or Lariat.

Get a 2017 . I read that the new 3.5 turbo will have dual fuel injection( direct and port ) like the Tacoma . This is suppose to solve the carbon build up problem !

After tax, title, tags, processing fees, Line-x liner, undercoat, interior and paint protection, $45,000. I paid $27,000 for my 2015 end of year 12 months ago. They gave me $26,500 trade. The 2016's have about $10,000 of rebates and dealer incentives. That should cover the Ford depreciation in my opinion. The carbon build up is not a problem as long as you open the throttle up about every 100 miles and there is an aftermarket fix, but I am waiting for the warranty to run out. The 2017 does not have any good rebates yet. My 2015 was paid off from the trade of my 2010 and $7000. You should get top dollar for your trade. I really like the larger radio and the center console. That was on my "MUST-HAVE" list. The one I have is an XLT fully loaded. It was about $4000 cheaper than the base Lariat which was bare-bones. only better option is the leather seats in the lariat. I would have to have spent about $10000 more for the equally equipped lariat. BTW, get the tailgate step. Here is a stock photo of it. As far as power goes, the twin turbo 3.5 is Fords highest capacity F-150 series engine. it has a higher tow capacity and payload than Tundra, Silverado, and Ram

That would be another set of Clazzios which, I checked last week, they do make for the F150. An absolute must have for me. I had the console and cloth buckets in my last F150 and I agree not paying the Lariat price for the leather and, usually, an unwanted sunroof. Have 1 in my Nissan never used. Had 1 in a 2009 Highlander that pooped at 51k miles. Just outside of warranty. Ford used to have leather options in XLT models. I have no idea why they canned it. It was only $1000 with color choices. That was a big dis on the Tacoma but I swear by my Clazzio leather for the price. I would not pay $40k for a Taco Limited for their one, and to me ugly, color buck leather seats. I have a Ford dealer 0.8 miles from me but we don't get the best deals here. I drove 200-300 miles to buy my last 3 new vehicles. Saved tons of money that way. Just got a one way rental car for the trips. Got my wife a new Escape last September in Woodbridge VA and it has had zero problems saved $2200. Hard to believe my Toyota has had over 5 problems since I bought it on Jan 2 2016 on top of the recurring transmission flaws. The Escape shifts like my F150 did. On time and no hesitation or flares. When I bought my 14 F150 in DC I got $7000 off which was $2000 less than any local competitor. The Taco was $1000 off sticker. I went to Maryland for that one because nobody could get me a TRD Sport Access in rear wheel drive anywhere between here and Texas. I may go drive a 3.5 EB to see if I like the power to weight ratio. Who knows where that will lead me. Maybe......................

If you drive it, you are gonna want it. Bring some money. LOL. BTW, the gear stick has a "Sport" mode. I just found that today. Needless to say..... I probably sucked down a ton of gas playing with it. This thing is just plain FUN!! I am very pleased with it!!

I suppose that will depend on how responsive Toyota is in the next couple of years. Looking like it could be "Ford World".
So far Toyota engineers have tried to fix the 3rd generation's flawed drivetrain with a service bulletin. Maybe in the future they will make a real mechanical correction. Either way, good luck to all of you and I hope your Tacos meet your needs. For the new TACO owners who are happy with your 3rd gen Tacos, do yourself a favor and never drive a 2nd gen Taco and stay away from the super white paint.

Nice truck!! Your F150 looks identical to mine other than mines the Lariat. One test drive and I knew I was going to own it.

Good luck to you and your new F150. My next door neighbor has a new XLT 4dr 4by4 3.5 purchased for him every 2 years by his company. He's in the AG buisness and he needs a truck for work. He loves Tacos and his personal Truck is a TRD17 Pro he bought a few weeks ago. I have to say the TRD Pro suspension is indeed impressive, really, it's more like awesome! Btw, my 3rd Gen is my 4th Tacoma. This 3rd Gen, I own, is a superior vehicle for me, over all other Tacos that I have owned. But, my heart is still with my 1st Gen DCSB TRD 4by4. I loved that truck!

I have read/ skim through this form. I have had a 2012 taco and 1016 4Runner. With the same 4.0 as the taco with the exception of the multi port injection in the 16 4Runner, it had the same 5 speed trans. It to drop hard into 3rd or 4th gears depending on speed and hill size. Dint really bother me as I was use to it with the 12taco. I trade the 4Runner for the 2016 taco I have more use for a truck, right away I notice a huge difference of power between the 4.0 and the 3.5.
The 3.5 it was more responsive an lively. It got the power down faster then the 4.0 did. Grated I got my 2016 taco used with 5,000 miles. I have gone over the same hills that cuze the five speed to shift. With 16 yes it did down shift but it was smother then the 2012 taco and 16 4Runner. It shifted back to top gear just as fast an smoother then the old taco and 4Runner.
Just like someone said on this form the etc power botton on seams to keep the Motor more lively. But when I put my foot down it gets up and goes with out the button on.
Maybe I am just a lucky one with my truck. Like I said I got it use. I don't know if it has had the trans up date. It very well could have. I have a 3inch lift and if I go freeway at 80 mp I avg 19 to 20 mpg hiway 23-24 mpg. City 18-19 mpg.
For those who are looking at other trucks here is some top tips. If you get a 2011 up to 2013 GM with a 5.3 and have 35,000 mile you will lose a quart of oil every 3000 mile. Not machine good luck with your head light or tail or signals not going hay wire. And if you go new with GM. Your engin will take 8 quarts of full sny, and dealing with electrical. And if you get the Colorado or canyon the curtain air bag blow. Just watch YouTube Kelly blue book review when they were comparing with taco.
Ford is not to bad but they have had their eco. Boost for how long and they are just tampering with the idea of duleport. And Toyota has it in their 2012-14 fj, 2012-174Runner and now their taco has it.
I do not post this to say that the taco don't have problems or what not
Just thought it would be good to see some positive news on the Tacoma.

Wow, quite a positive spin on the Tacoma 3.5, four consecutive 4.0 have for my needs were much more satisfying to own as opposed to 2016, oh well, guess I should drink my lemon aid and wildly shift on down the road. Congratulations on getting a good Taco , impressive MPG !

If my Tacoma would've been anywhere close to TacmaJames6's I would still have it. Very unfortunately it was not and with no support from Toyota, my decision had to be to change brands. I never knew Tacoma World existed until I googled 2016 Tacoma shifting problems and I found I was not alone. On a positive note, I really did like everything else about the Tacoma, it's too bad mine couldn't perform so I could keep it. I'm referring to not being able to pull my boat that all my other 8 Tacoma's could pull easily.
