I never could find a deal on a used rear sway bar for my 2002 Prerunner (streets only) so I am going to bite the bullet and order a new one. Two brands are available: the more expensive Hellwig and the Addco......about $100.00 difference.

The Addco looks like it comes with less hardware. Has anybody used either brand?

You could probably get one at a local wrecker for less than the shipping cost.

I don't think I will find one anywhere except from someone who bought one as an aftermarket accessory.

That's the less glamorous name for one, but yes, that's basically what I'm talking about.

There are all sorts of ones you could find in your area. I like the "pick n' pull" ones, where they let you loose in the yard with your tools, and you come back with the part(s) you want. YOu tend to save a few bucks by doing the dirty work yourself. and a sway bar is easy enough to remove.

But why are you looking for one? did you break yours or something?

being that they were never a stock item, it/s like finding a needle in a haystack, among a field of haystacks...

I've looked at them before and fundamentally they are the same but attach slightly different.

I would hit up @TMFF and see if it's cheaper to get it from him.

I PM'd the guy but haven't heard back.

    Shipping will be the kicker.

I found lots of them on car-part.com in the SE region.

My model did not come with a rear sway bar. The "salvage" yards around Atlanta are pretty expensive. Demand for parts for older Tacomas is strong.

    Shit!

I just realized you're looking for a REAR sway bar. I don't think that was ever a factory option. In that case you will need to go aftermarket. I pulled a FRONT bar off last week.

Pretty sure all 3rd-gen 4runners have REAR sway bars.
Maybe they can be modified to work on a Tacoma. Has anyone tried this?

This just sunk in for me as well...

Why do you want a REAR swaybar?

I assume it's to reduce body roll, but, dude, you're driving a *truck*... it will always have body roll.

Did you ever find a rear anti-sway bar? I think you will be very satisfied with the Addco bar and save $100. I installed a rear on my 4X4 and was very impressed with it.
