went with the hankooks

after trying to decide between the nittos and the hankooks i went ahead and got the kooks put on tonight. i dont have a lift, and prob will never have one, so i went with 265/70r17's. they seem to fit nicely and gave it a little more filled out look. the bridgestones that came on the truck were smack wore out. sorry about the picture quality, i'm pretty new to this site and i plan on getting some better pics up in the next day or so. this is my 2nd tacoma, the first being a 97 reg cab 4x4. i like the 07 so far, just having to do a little at a time on a budget. throw some ideas at me. anything i might could do myself or that wont break the bank. thanks guys

 

I intend to go with Hankook Dynapro ATM in the OEM 245/75 R16 size this fall. I'm about 75% sure of that. The fallback options are General Grabbers and Yokohama Geolander AT-S.

Of course they do. It's not a particularly small size, it's a normal truck tire size.

In that size:

So, no, not a huge difference in price.

 

I have had Hankooks on my truck for about 29000 miles. Not a single problem with them. I have them rotated for free every 3000 miles and balanced if they need it...and they have not needed a rebalance since day one. They have worn very good. They are good in the mud (when and if it ever rains in Austin) and good running down the highway at speed. All in all, I would not hesitate to buy them again. They are a very quite tire when new. Once I had about 10k on them, they got just a tad bit louder but not much.

 

5K miles on my Dynapros and no worries so far. Just did 700 miles roundtrip last weekend on 65 mph interstate and the ride was quiet and comfy. My 275/65R16s ride/print the most even with about 38 psi in front and 36 psi in back. This is for a DC 4x4. They're P-rated so the sidewalls are relatively soft. Any less pressure and I get severe sidewall bulge.

 

UPDATE: I had Hankook AT's installed 30K miles ago. 275/75/16's. Took three trips to get them balanced right but we all know how fussy our Tacoma's can be with balance. Not real crazy about the sidewall look but it does add extra protection to the sidewall. That sidewall protection just adds to the "old radial" look these tires have at my pressures. I did the chalk test and 30 front and 28 rear was the perfect numbers to have the entire tread track the road. They hug the pavement well and are wearing evenly across them. The tire guy just commented that they have 30K miles on them and they are not even half way worn yet. I rotate at 5K religiously and it is paying off. I would say these were a very good value price wise with the service they are giving. I will purchase them again when these finally wear out.

 

Added some this past Friday and so far very happy with them. The BFGs were badly worn after only 15K miles. These ride better, little sharper turn in, and no noticeable noise difference. $129 ea at tire direct.

 

They are great tires, I had them on my 07 and they took everything I threw at them. Kinda wish I would have got them again but I got the bros for a lot cheaper with a sale at 4wheelparts.

My post was in '11, and I replaced that set with another just like it in the summer of '15. About 45k miles on that set when I replaced them, and I could have gotten another 20k. I had DTD install a new set when I bought my new wheels.

 

I've got about 10k on mine and they have been great. I had the Grabber AT2's on a previous tacoma and really liked those too. But they are a lot heavier and noisier on the road.

Glad this thread was bumped, will most likely be going with Hancooks for my next tire, can't beat the price on Tirerack, I just need to figure out if I want to get 265 75 16 or go with 285s, not 100% sure the 285s will fit though with my current setup.

 

I just went with the Dynapro's 265/70/17's. They will land this Friday!

 

I've had the Dynapros on my truck for about 40k miles now and they have been excellent on- and off-road. I still have over 50% tread left as well.

 

I am thinking about a set when my stockers wear out. How are they on wet pavement?

 

About 100 times better than what Toyota puts on them.

 

I am on my second set right now and plan to purchase a third set here around the first of the year. 1st set I squeezed 73,500 miles out of them, 2nd set is only going to make 65K as I had shock issues along the way that wore them harder. I am at 187K miles now on my 08'.

 

I remember when i joined tacomaworld "I will never get a lift kit....."

I now know what lift kit i am buying in a few months thanks to some fellow tacomaworld members!
