Called local dealer today about this bc I've noticed what everyone else has but they basically told me this update is for 2016s only. Can't be used on a 17 and there is no update for 17s "yet", is this true?o_O

Ironically enough, I called my "other" "local" dealership and they said they "can" do it. He said he's pretty sure they've already done a few 17s but won't know for sure if there's an update until he plugs into it to see if there's anything available for the vehicle to download.
He mentioned that a lot from the first dealership end up coming over and getting similar things like this update done with them instead.
So I might be in for a 1:40 round trip to have them hook up and say sorry there's nothing

Very sorry to hear your 16 Tacoma is not performing properly. Maybe it's time to move on to another Truck or go back to a 4.0? This might help you with your frustration and current disappointment with the 3rd Gen Tacoma.

i would love to know what they tell you about he jumpy brakes. I have a 2017 TRD OR with 1600 miles on it. my brakes seem to be jumpy at times but the goofy thing is its random and not every time i stop. I have been waiting to get time to go have them look at it. My tranny seemed to be kinda lagging until i hit 1200 miles and then it started doing better.

I got a 2017 (build 9/16) and have the excessive over shifting. Getting to 6th gear before 35mph and downshifting with the slightest grade in CC. I don't have the surging or delay from P-D or into any gear like others, but I hope the TSB will apply to '17.

I am curious What size of boat do you have? And was it your first taco? And what did you trade for? I had an 08 tundra with 5.7 Love that truck! I have halled some wood with my parents 21 foot double axle flat bed it handle it surprising good i had it loaded with about 1 1/2 Cords . It was from one town to the old homestead about 45. Miles both ways had one hill wasn't to big but it stayed I 5th might have gotten into 6th it stayed it stayed at about 1800-2,500 rpm. I stayed at 55 comfortable in that rpm range. I did to keep my mpg as high as I could. Could gone faster but the rpm would Ben higher Witch is not the best for long halls not that it was long just a habit I have from my construction days. But I do not pull a trail a lot.
Now I claiming this truck can do that pull where ever you go I did not have to clime hills or go x- Country with it daily. And if I was I would go with tundra all the way.

I have a 17 foot aluminum Lund fisherman. All my previous Gen 1 and Gen 2 Tacos (I owned 8 previous new Tacoma's) had no problem pulling it very well. My 2016 Tacoma wouldn't come out of 3rd gear and I had to turn around and go back home. My case mgr (Casey) at Toyota said that's how they are now, I really don't think that's how they are, but I didn't really have any options as they weren't going to do anything with it so I had to change brands or I wouldn't be able to pull my boat.

I traded for a Ford F150 Lariat which is a very nice truck. I was thinking about the Tundra but I was very unhappy with Toyota at this point. We've also purchased around 8 new Camry's from the dealership and a 2017 Camry at the same time as my 2016 Tacoma so I was a very diehard loyal Toyota customer. I really think I had a very bad truck but they weren't willing or didn't know what to do to fix it so it had to go away. My Taco would shift from 4th to 5th to 6th and then back down to 4th every mile or so on a flat road with no incline or wind in cruise control and every time I drove it was upsetting and frustrating. Also all of my MPG were between 12.5 to 13.4 which is horrible, especially when I hear what people are getting on here.

I'm hanging around here to see if Toyota comes up with a fix for the unlucky people who have issues also. All of our previous Toyota's have been great so maybe, just maybe some day I may own another one but I need to see that Toyota has taken care of their customers before I consider buying back in. Tacoma's were tough and great trucks, and some people still brag up the new ones so maybe some are working but you couldn't prove it by me.

Now that is terrible. Your boat package cannot weigh more than what , 2200 lbs? Does it have trailer brakes dragging ?

There's no brakes on the trailer. It's just a single axle trailer. I totally agree it's terrible, that's why I no longer own the truck.

That is ridiculous when a dealership Start acting that way. I feel like they have nobody care about there jobs so there for no account ability of their action. Let alone their quality control of products in there care.
Toyota do need to their ducks in row. The ford eco.bost is a truck to contend with. and with diesels coming in the market Toyota is falling behind I feel. Especially with the diesel hilux in Europ. Toy should have had the diesels in small truck market long ago. But Gm got that I know Jeep is getting close with one in the wrangler, dodge has that Eco diesel both GM, dodge diesel are from their Eruo venture they have.
I heard that the tundra will have the v8 turbo cummins the Nission has. But I do not know if that has been confirmed
Is there any one that are having the same kind of luck with there taco as I am?

I was pretty disappointed with the lack of power pulling my 1600 lb boat. Probably 2000 lbs with the trailer. The truck handled great but I had to keep it in ECT the entire trip or it was constantly lagging. This was an all flat interstate trip. Hard downshifts on every incline, could not keep it in cruise it was driving me crazy.

Like I said, the ride and handling was great, power sucked.

I went and rewatched enough of that video last night also to see that the truck was running 4000 + rpm pulling that trailer . It must have been in 2nd and third gear the whole time . I wonder how bad for the trans that is ? I must be better for it than lugging in 4th . (1 to 1 ) The manual for my old Dodge 5.9L said never to tow in over drive and had a tow button , all it did was disable the OD . It dropped to 2nd to go up hills too . It changed gears a lot also ( 3spd + OD ), I always wondered if most of it was the torque convertor locking and unlocking because it seemed to have an extra gear according to the tach.
Does the Toyota lock and unlock the convertor and make it look like it is shifting gears more than it is ?

Well said! What I noticed too was the 3rd Gen beat the 2nd Gen in the same test (time to the top) by 50 seconds. Very interesting video indeed! I also read during the development of the 3rd Gen, Toyota surveyed current Tacoma owners on "how much they tow" and answered survey by Tacoma owners was less than 50% actually towed. So engineers took this info and built what we have today...and what is it? My answer is, if you are going to tow "a lot" don't buy 3rd Gen or any midsize truck, buy a truck equipped to tow. One thing I noticed too is this is one hell of a grade with a summit of 11,000 feet +! The Colorado diesel crapped out much worse than the Tacoma, btw. Again, if towing a bunch, buy a towing beast not a midsize truck known for off-road ability like the Taco.

Btw we took my friends TRD Pro out the other day, we tried to get it stuck and could not awesome offroad truck shitty tower...

All great information, very revealing and enlightening for the Tacoma owner who toe's. As is surveyed , Tacoma owners typically don't acquire a Taco to toe. For the thousands of Tacoma owners many whom have experienced great results with previous generations of Tacomas . Seems all we yearn for is for the third generation at least perform as well as second generation Tacos. Why all the drivetrain issues? We know not, best answered by Toyota, if these customer concerns were not valid, why in the world would Toyota issue extended service agreements on many affected units, why? , Toyota after over a year have not corrected these owner's concerns, hopefully diligent efforts are in place, big T will deliver what their faithful loyal Tacoma owners want, third to second equality in product performance, simple! Long live the Tacoma !

Sorry if this was covered in previous posts (I'm not looking through 127 pages of content, but I did skim through about 10 pages), but how long does this TSB take to perform? I'm taking my truck in tomorrow for the 10k service and figured I'd finally get my transmission issues fixed.

Does the revision do anything the first TSB didn't..? And if so can it be done if you had the first version..?
