The brightness on the indicator on the shifter is ridiculously bright and annoys the hell out of me. I drove alot at night, especially in the winter, and I turn down the dash brightness all the way so easier on the eyes. The shifter indicator light doesn't dim with the dash and is super bright. Any one have any clean ideas on how to disable it? I don't want to start just snipping wires. I had the same issue with the courtesy light over the qi pad reflecting at night off my phone screen, but some discreet electrical tape fixed that problem. Don't want to red neck my truck and just cover the shifter in electrical tape though. Is there a bulb in there that I can just pull? How does that work?

I stumbled onto them. It's dark on my way to work, and my way home a big chunk of the year, and that light is annoying. After I got them, I put them on a LOT of stuff in the house too. They come right off, and leave no residue behind.

If you take off the center console, there's a harness right under that light you can just unplug.

That seems easier. Any ideas on getting that console apart. I can get the shifter knob off but no further?

Here's some instruction I left in another thread, basically once you have the shifter knob off you just pull up on the plastic:

Getting older sucks. 15 years ago, I added LED lights in my accord for "ambient lighting" and to see things better inside the car. These days, I have to turn everything down to the dimmest level at night. I was JUST thinking I need to look up the mods for the 2nd gen tacomas to take out the regular bulbs for LED's so that I could see if I could change the LED to a regular bulb on the 3rd gen.

The light dimmer sticker may be a great idea. until then...I used painter's tape over the "D" to keep the residue down to a minimum about 4 weeks ago.

Or maybe you are just lucky and blessed with youthful eyes that still adapt to light/dark better. It would have never bothered me when I was younger. It just gets worse as I get older.

I am almost 40 but perhaps so. I just played with it tonight and you are right. The backlight adjusts with the panel dimmer but the P,R,N,D stays the same brightness. That is pretty much crap. Sorry
