I have the 5100's installed for about 40k miles, and they have been amazing. Especially when they were put on at about 140k miles, made a huge difference.

My only two issues, is that on my 2005, I put the front setting on 0.85" (or whatever it is), and I got the driver's side half shaft vibration due to the tolerances in the needle bearing, which were fixed by installing the East Coast Gear Supply bushing in the front differential. The second problem I've had, is that even though my alignment shows almost dead on spec, I have the outside edges of my tires wearing much faster than the inside, and that is maintaining proper air pressure and rotating the tires. I had it aligned twice during the life of the tires, and that didn't seem to make a difference...

I checked the ride height all around, and all came within about 1/2" of each other. The driver's side rear seemed the lowest, but could be due to the gas tank.

Well, after just two days, I'm really impressed with the ride, it just seems really smooth, and believe me, that's quite a statement with Tulsa roads.

The other thing that I've notice, and I'm not quite sure how it would be affected by replacing the leaf springs, is that I used to have kind of a "take up" when starting from a complete stop. Like the drive system had maybe 1/2" of slack in it that you'd feel as a small bump right at the beginning of acceleration. This seems to have stopped completely, which is nice, because I think it had been that way for years, if not from the day I bought the truck in 2005.

    Hi everyone,
I am currently sitting in a dealer waiting to get my new springs. I called yesterday to schedule an appointment, and they said they have the parts in stock and everything is good. Supposedly it is only going to take an hour. This seems like it is going wayyy easier than everyone else. When I get my new springs what should the number on them be? I have a 2006 Double cab 4x4 with the 2+1 springs. I am afraid they are going to install an new-old leaf pack. Thanks

Yep, same as mine. I'll probably get back there and check torque on all those bolts on my next oil change.

So I've read a bunch of threads about the new leaf springs, and even had them replaced in the recall. (Won't tell the story about how long it takes)... but the new springs are crap! They sag more than the others and I still have axle wrap!!! WTF.
I wish I hadn't waited so long for this less than stella "fix".
So what can I do now. Buy a panhard bar or other axle wrap prevention. ? (I am putting on new 5100's next week)
Can someone direct me to the best solutions/threads on how to finally solve this please.

Axle wrap can be caused by bad leaf Springs or bad shocks. replacing your shocks should help with the axle wrap. and the way to fix the saggy back end would be getting an AAL or air bags. also read a few people who got some sumo Springs which is like air bags without the air. I've heard those can make the ride home little stiffer though. good luck
Also the AAL depend how much height you want. some give 1.5 some give 2"
Me personally, I went with the 3 leaf progressive AAL from wheelers and some 5100's and it's all good now. back to normal height.

So did they refuse to replace the springs? I'd be driving that lawsuit around if that was the case...just make sure you have a seatbelt cutter to be on the safe side.

My hitch and electrical plug look exactly like that too, pretty crappy for a factory installed towing package.

phew, what year is that rust rot one ?? that reminds me of New England where you hardly ever see anything on the road over 5 years old being driven in the winter. nice older cars are kept in heated garages and only brought out in good weather for weekend rides.

My ride height is normal, i haven't lifted it. The springs shouldn't need AAL's straight of the shelf........!
Well i'm over my hissy fit and will put the "Advance Auto" helper springs ($30-ish)on the new leaf pack the same time as I do the shocks.
This should help until I get a real AAL. My driveline will be the next area of slop I try to rectify as it's been used to slam into the back of my tranny everytime I stopped, from the axle wrap!
My thoughts are with many peoples about just how good Toyota isn't, and how little they care for you once you've finished paying them the big bucks. These springs are a prime example.
I'm not selling the truck, just expected a better product.
Thanks for the help fellow Tacomian's.

Lots of great information here. I just joined this forum and have already learned a lot.
I have a question concerning the Ride Rite air bags and the leaf spring recall. I have a 2008 Tacoma with air bags. Does anyone know if the new leaf springs from the dealer will lift the inside of the air bag bracket so that it no longer makes contact with the axle? Made an appointment to get the leaf springs installed and thought this might be an issue.
    Thanks

Later today, I could measure the distance from the top of the springpack to the frame on my freshly recall-replaced 2008 Access Cab 4x4 TRD Offroad, its totally stock.
