I don't have a house yet, so I rent. I am looking for a new apartment, and it's rare to find a property with a garage. Not to mention the extra they want to charge you.

So what would you do if you buy a new car but don't have a garage? Would something like Line-X be a solution for at least a couple years?

Why would you line-X? I don't have a garage and none of my vehicles have ever had line-X on them in my 20+ years of driving. "Confused"

If you put line-X on a new car you do realize they will scuff the paint before applying? There is no going back to paint after linex without serious expense.

I'm in an apartment without a garage as well. Just super clean the paint, apply Meg's Ultimate Wax, and then Collonite Super-Double coat and you'll be good.

    :eek::lalala:

    No.
    Clean and wax regularly.

Then later down the road IF you had paint problems .. (like my wife's car did)
    Then you could plastidip. :rolleyes::thumbsup:

LineX- might be good for a trail runner..:alien:
But irreversible and just not a super good idea. plastidip is good worst case scenario. :burnrubber::worthless:

Have you seen the new linex paint jobs in person?
Those google images look like they have quite a bit of texture (for my taste.)

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Get sealant on the paint asap. Mine has been parked outside since day 1

I blame "LineX to get me by for a couple years?"

Permanent mod, there. Also, paint has been around a lot longer than garages.. paint is just fine to have. You should wash it occasionally, or don't.. really your call OP.

Good luck with trading or selling after line-x. Not understanding the logic behind doing this to a new truck. A trail runner yes, but new?

Line-X isn't a temporary solution. I would just suggest having it professionally detailed and have them do some kind of ceramic coating if you're really worried. Other than that just wash and wax regularly.

Get a good sealant on it (a couple times a year) and keep it maintained with a spray wax after washes.

    Some good sealants:
    Duragloss 111 or 105
    Menzerna Powerlock
    Wolfgang Deep Gloss 3.0
    Blackfire Wet Diamond
Finish Kare High Temp Paste Wax

    Some good spray waxes:
    Duragloss Aquawax
    Ultima Acrylic Spray Wax
    Meguiars Ultimate Quick wax

Or if you want to go with a sealant more easily applied, the following "wipe on-walk away" sealants are great:
    Ultima Paint Guard Plus
    Optimum Opti-seal

    If you're a Carnauba guy:
The Collinite waxes are tough as nails (but I'd personally go for a sealant)

Another option is a Paint Coating. They typically last a couple years. Application is a little more finicky and you need a clean, polished surface to apply on. TW member Ace can attest to the optimum coating. They're great, but more expensive and application takes a little more attention.

    Thanks guys for the advises!

I mentioned Line-X as I was thinking about the other services they also have such as protective coating, not the bedliner. Sorry for the confusion.

Since I rent, it's unlikely I will be able to wash the car myself. I heard the car wash places with big brushes are not good for the paint. But what type of car wash place is good? I assume after the car wash, I should use one of the easy applied sealants/waxes you guys mentioned to give it an extra layer of protection.

Sorry I am a newbie to this. But my current car paint has been faded really bad after exposing to the sun for 9 years. So I really want to take care of my next truck.

Two buckets of water, some microfiber towels and Optimum No Rinse or Quick and Easy Wash and you can wash it anywhere.

Don't be sorry, that's what we're here for.

Are you asking about a solution for your next truck, or your "current car paint?"

Next truck: search for a "touchless car wash" in your area. Usually at Chevron or Shell stations. They use pressure sprayers instead of spinning cloth. When the wash is finished, dry it all off with a microfiber towel. Apply a few coats of your favorite sealant. If you really want to go full-boar, check out the other threads on this subforum.

Current car paint: wash, clay bar, compound, polish, sealant, then wax.

Find a local pay n spray. Do you washing there. Pick up some water activated sealant like Adams H20 Guard and Gloss. Spray it on while wet then dry with a microfiber. Looking at a project that will take 30 minutes or less. Or go the rinseless wash route as others have suggested.
