Got rear ended on the way to work this am. Luckily the lift and my hitch saved the day...for me any ways......

no visual damage at all. Just paint transfer on my ball. Ill still take it in to have it looked at, make sure nothing under/behind the bumper is bent.

She must have been riding my ass, she said she reached down to crab her coffee. I heard her lock em up before she hit me. Turns out she was an off duty cop...and I noticed her tags expired in June lol

Eh, get your frame checked. A direct hit to an installed hitch is a quick way to get frame damage. All the force goes directly to the frame instead of the bumper from what I understand

Would be curious to see as well, but hell this past summer up in D.C. There have been a few big stories on cops not about if they get out of shit, but to how much stuff they get off on. Atleast in my area, it's noticeable enough for public concern.

I would definitely remove the rear bumper for "inspection".... and since putting it back on would require LOTS of time and effort... an aftermarket offroad bumper would provide the peace of mind in the future :D

Yes, she was straight up by the book. Called the police herself. Everything has to be by the book since she was off duty, that's the feeling I got any ways. I don't think you get tickets in my state for accidents. But yes, she was at fault. She did mention that her husband had just put 2k into the car, so I'm thinking it was likely sitting when the tags expired and they just never got them renewed.

That's what happened to me with my FJ. Hadn't had it more than a few months, brand new, had to stop for traffic on a wet highway at night and a kid in an old ZJ smacked me in the rear end. My hitch also took the impact and you couldn't tell I was hit, his ZJ was totaled. Both his airbags went off, horn was on constantly, had to be towed off.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Let's not turn this into a cop bashing thread.

    OP, glad everyone is ok.
