can't argue there, cause I do plan on keeping it  It wasn't long ago I thought it was pretty ridiculous to do, but now I'm starting to research more... time will tell :fingerscrossed:

Just sayin'.... I hope her truck was supposed to be recalled for lbj's. She's been loyal to them and look how they took advantage of her! Scum-bags. She could have been driving 70mph...

Thanks sir. Nothing came up for my truck unfortunately, but Toyota should just replace them under appropriate circumstances anyways if someone brings their truck in. One of the worse design failures I have seen on a truck IMO.

I'd ask the dealer if they'll honor the recall for your truck; or ask them to explain why LBJ's in other regions are being replaced on certain models... I'd like to know there response. This isn't a spare tire recall, we're talking about loosing complete control of your vehicle without notice.

Yeah I will have to do that. You are right though, this isn't a simple tire carrier bracket coming loose or something, its literally a life or death LBJ failure that can take a good highway drive down to the market and turn it into a totaled truck with a few broken bones (Or worse)

If i remember correctly it's was a line of production of a certain time frame that the castings of the lbj's was known to cause failure. So pretty much something went wrong in there production process for a certain amount of time before they caught it. I believe it is sometime for the 01-04 series. Been awhile since I did research for my '99 on this recall buts that's what I remember because I found out mine did not qualify.

Its a recalled wear item that lasted 15+ years. it didn't just suddenly fail. it could have been prevented with basic checkups and maintenance. the oem lbjs have exceeded 200k before. think of how many other brands can say that about their components.

I agree! I thought the dealer had recently inspected it and put her off, saying older trucks just make noise.

I rescently replaced my lbjs, bought 4 new bolts per side, locktighted, and paint marked and a week later half of them were loose!

Good move. How much did you torque the bolts the 1st & 2nd time? That locktight should've held it.

About 2 drops of locktight on each bolt and torqued to 55...
