What you need to know about lifting a 2016 Tacoma - Presented by Toytec Lifts

I haven't done any trimming. It does rub a little sometimes when I'm turning into parking lots (going up the curb). It rarely happens though.

 

Anyone running OME 886 with no winch/bumper? How does it ride?

 

That would be super firm I bet, since some people with bumpers don't like the ride with the 886's on there.

 

I did a 2.5/1.5 leveling kit and 285's. I went from 18.5 miles per gallon to 15. I didn't reprogram the speedo, so in real life I probably dropped 2.5 miles per gallon. I have no idea how that translates to metric. I've been told the 285's are a big reason for the drop, as much if not more than the lift. I have no idea how accurate that is.

 

I have 285's with a 2.5/1.5 leveling kit and they rub when turning and hit a bump. Bumper is trimmed, hitting the mudflap. No lift=265's Really need a full 3 inch lift for 285's

2016 TRD OR. Have a snug top (outdoorsman edition) with a Tepui RTT on top. Added BAMF sliders. Before a recent trip on the Mohave Rd, had 2 5Gal gas cans + about another 10 gallos of water in the back. The ball on my trailer hitch (no trailer) was hitting bottom rolling up into a grocery store parking lot.

Weight-wise -- shell ~80-100lb, tent ~150lb, sliders ~130lb (total).

Clearly, I need to fix things.

I'm happy with the stock height. I run KO2s. I was looking at the OME kit, but it looks like those are throw away when done. I plan on adding some under body armor and want wiggle room to have more weight in the bed.

The experience on the Mojave Road, things were a little bouncy.

What would be the Icon stage equivalent for OME Med or Hvy duty? Other options? I don't need to lift things (a little bit is fine), and probably 70-80% of my driving is on city streets, so I'd like to keep the ride reasonable.

Here's what I'm thinking for my 2017 trd sport 2wd. What are your guys thoughts on this? Bilstein 5100 front and back, with the stock springs, and a block on the rear to level it out. I'm a fly fishing guide, so this will only be on fire roads, nothing to rough. plus, it's my daily driver. I can have this all installed and re-aligned for around $779. I don't haul anything heavy in the back.

 

OR....
5100 on all 4, front set at 1+, rear set to 0, and single AAL.
I offer that cuz I hear the AAL is a better decision than the block.
Just hearsay, not an opinion.

 

Will the AAL stiffen the ride more in the back?

 

I got OME 885s with 5100s all around, inch block in the rear... Go with the AAL, trust me

 

I'll add that option into my decision. what do you dislike about the block in the rear? I'm going back and forth on the stock Springs, or just doing the 885. I have less than 2000 miles on my truck now. Should I use the stock Springs till they wear out, or just change them out the first time? I know this has probably been hashed out 1000 times. I just don't wan to regret my choice

 

If your just wanting to level your truck do stock coil with 5100s set at second notch .85, you will not need anything for the rear unless you just want 5100s on the rear too (no lift) you will also need 1/4 " spacer driver side for lean. I have 885 coils brand new in box sitting in my garage and 1" block for rear but decided to go with stock off road coils with 5100s set at second notch 1/2" inch spacer driver side 1/4" spacer passenger side 5100s in rear (no lift) get about 1 1/2" front. Measures 22 1/2" all around and rides great. There is about a million ways to lift! Good luck!

Do that. It looks like there's a good amount of information there. I'll be doing it when I have more time.
I'm wanting nominal lift; level is less concern to me. LEVEL is what I want to see when I have both the shell and 300lbs of trailer tongue weight.
I previously installed a set of sumosprings.

 

If I had to do it over again, I'd go 887 or 888 and a Deaver leaf pack in the rear... Which I'm really considering.. You'll def need a UCA at that height

 

The 5100's are firmer than my SR stock shocks. I'm running 885 springs which are lighter rate than factory. The 5100's are a bit firm for my liking on the back roads where I live, but great on the road. The Sport shocks might ride better. I'm running a 1" rear block, and there isn't any more axle wrap than stock, I'd be hesitant with any block over 1". The factory leafs don't do much to battle axle wrap.

If you are not looking for a huge lift, a top plate spacer would be a good option to get it up in the air about an 1" or so.

Is some differences if u do the alignment in off road shop or a shop like sear or Costco after you lift the truck ?
I try to install 5100 and 2"lift front and maybe aal back or 1 block

 

I'm new to lifts....does anyone have any experience with this kit? Or opinions...I plan to do light duty off-roading on my 2017 TRD OR, nothing heavy duty.

Also how much can I expect to be charged for a professional install?

I wouldn't put that much lift above strut. Go with Revtek or Bilstien for a combination lift if going inexpensive route. .....Figure about $300 to $480 for install including front end alignment.

Also, if your TRD is not a 4×4 no need for drop diff spacers. (I know that goes without saying)
