Cheap Floor Mat Retainer Fix

I have a floor mat retainer hook in the driver side floor that holds the floor mats in place. I pulled my floor mats out one day and the grommet that holds the small hook that is found under the carpet broke. I'm sure I'm not the only one who this has happened to them and I searched and couldn't find the part to replace it or any way to fix it so me and matt "bandit" figured out a cheap easy way to do it. We got two washers that were a tight fit at the bottom of the hook, that way it won't just slip out of the hook. We then put one of the washers on the hook and pushed it through the carpet. I pulled the scuff plate up so I could get under the carpet in order to place this washer on to the hook so you have two washers on the hook holding the carpet in between. Put the scuff plate back on and you'll have this.

This allows the hook to swivel the way it should. No one wants this ugly washer showing so I found the best thing I could to cover it up.....

......weathertechs. now your done and your floor mat retainer holds the mats in place like they're supposed to.

 

Toyota sells replacement ones, I believe they're just a couple dollars, thats a neat idea to fix it yourself though.

 

I think it works just as well if not better. Pretty easy also

 

Yeah I'm sure that metal is stronger cause the replacement one they sell is plastic.

I had a broken one and my dealer parts dept gave me two for free.

 

Can't see the pictures but 3/4 of my retainers are broken and i'd like to fix it
