Beginner front/rear door speaker replacement questions

I accidentally blew a speaker a few weeks ago and I'm looking at upgrading to better speakers anyways. I know next to nothing about electronic/speaker replacement. If I were to get mid level door speakers would I also need to get an aftermarket amp and new radio? I had a pretty decent system in an older tacoma but that was lost in a car accident. I'm not really sure where to begin or what speakers are considered the best for money?

 

Some speakers will run off your factory head unit. Your HU(head unit) probably pushes 30-40 watts max to each speaker.

Just depends on what you want out of your stereo that will determine what you need to get.... My advice is to only worry about the front speakers, as when the music is playing you dont hear the speakers in the rear doors.

If you want to just replace the blown speaker with a new set then it can be done pretty cheap. Just find a set of speakers that are designed to work with factory HUs and you should be good.

If you want better sounding speakers then you can spend a little or alot, depending on how much you want to spend. And you will probably need to purchase an amp and coaxial speakers. Same thing if you just want a louder sound.

If you are like me, a music lover, then you just want a great sounding system that you can jam out with. You can get this by purchasing a decent amp and a set of component speakers.

Do some research into what you want to do, pick a couple speakers in your price point and post them up on, then people will let you know what they think about the speakers you picked.

Awesome thank you! Do you have speakers in front and back? Or just the front as you mentioned? My older tacoma had a sweet system but the bass was almost too much so I want something thats a nice pretty above average sound

 

I have speakers in the front and back, but if i had to do it again i would have saved the money and just replaced the front speakers. However my rear speakers are running off the HU and not my amp.

 

Keep this in mind....

The stock head unit will automatically turn down the bass as the volume gets turned up as a way to protect what it thinks are stock drivers.
So better speakers may not shine on stock unit when cranked up.

it's a salesman story to get you to replace your deck or sell unnecessary equipment.

I cannot find the link (as of this moment) to another thread about this, but it has been confirmed that the '16 & '17 oem head unit does not turn down bass automatically to protect the speakers.

To answer the OP's original question, head unit is up to you, but in my opinion a small 4 channel amp and aftermarket speakers will make a difference. I am, currently, running a rockford fosgate amp to my factory speakers in my '17 double cab and just by doing that made the speakers so much better. I am researching now on what door speakers to go with so that I can upgrade factory speakers. Right now I am either going with
