283k miles, runs great. Doesn't drip or burn any oil. I've personally owned this truck since 99' w/ 44k miles. I've driven the heck out of it and kept up w/ oil changes every 3k miles religiously. The engine has a "tick" that is a valve that cannot be shimmed enough to keep it quiet, but after 6 years of "ticking" I wouldn't be too worried about it. Transmission is strong, never slips. Few dings on the outside, but original paint. Mostly highway miles.
The truck is used and has high miles. I'm selling cause I'm in need of a bigger truck to accomodate my dog! It's not a cream puff, but to give you an idea how I've maintained it, the original Toyota ujoints are still tight and have been greased up every other oil change. Running 32x11.50 Maxxis Bighorn tires w/ about 30% tread left. Custom welded reciever hitch. Everything works as should. You'll get 17 mpg w/ the large mud tires. Best I've ever got was 21.6 w/ 31x10.50 AT tires.
This is a heck of a truck and I hate to see it go, but I'm ready to upgrade to a bigger truck. Retail is 7900, Rough trade in 4000. They are all over the web for 6000 and higher, I'm asking $5000. I'll include the balljoints and right wheel bearing but you'll have to install them. The truck does have high miles and an engine that ticks, but is still a solid running truck. I have made several trips since November 200+ miles away to duck hunt while pulling my 4wheeler. I'm pricing this truck to sell. It's as is, but of course you'll need to come look at it and see for yourself that it's a solid truck. Org eng and trans.
Here's a list of the stuff that's been done in the past two years...
-Brand new leaf springs (two months)
    -Brand new starter
-new headlights (old ones too dim)
    -Spark plugs and wires
    -timing belt 15k ago
    -left frt wheel bearing
    -brake pads
    -power steering pump
    -belts
-rear end rebuilt at about 240k miles
    -Trans drain and fill
    -Dropped trans pan to clean
    -inner tie rod ends
-outer tie rod end left side
    -control arm bushings
    -rack and pinion bushings
There is more stuff that's been done, but my list is at my office! I'll update tomorrow.
    ***********
    now for the bad...
-needs right front wheel bearing (comes w/ the truck not installed)
-needs both ball joints (also comes w/ truck)
    -Engine valve as mentioned
-driver's seat has 6 inch tear
-minor door dings here and there.
    -Stripes are peeling w/ age
-steering wheel has chunk missing from wear.

    stock, for now
looks good from the outside, but I really dont see $4,500.

When I Kbb'd my truck a while back, and its got over 100K less then yours, they were telling me it would be worth like 2500.

Well, I've cleaned it up and it looks much better. NADA decoded w/ vin number and options/mileage says 4000 rough trade in up to 7900 retail.
I have located a 4runner that I want, but I'll need $3500 out of my truck to make it happen.
NEW PRICE $3500 FIRM. I'll throw in the balljoints and wheel bearing if it sells fast enough. A dealership told me today trade in should be no less than 3k. Having said that I know it has high miles and is not a cream puff. Otherwise it would be 5k. I'll be putting a sign on it tomorrow for local sale. Let me know if anyone is interested. Thanks

retail price is the price a licensed dealer would sell it for who are required to warrenty their vehicles for at least 30 days.

the accurate price for a private sale is through kbb.com. but don't ge tme wrong....3500 is a fair price for a 96. i've seen 1991-1992 in MA gor for 3000 (much less miles though)

    good luck w the sale

I may not have every option listed i tried the best i could

Good truck and good price...people need to knock off this "your pricing it too high" stuff. It ain't your truck and he didn't ask for your opinion. Don't like the price move along or PM him. This is more than a reasonable price for this truck in this market.

Bump and +1 rep for the guy.

    Thanks for the bumps guys
I put a sticker in the window today $4200, I'll come down to 3500 cash for local sale. It is a heck of a deal. If nothing else, it's a heated and cooled 4wheeler!

I agree with the recent posts, Evan. I'd be all over it for that price. Wish I had 3500! Good luck with the sale.

Well, traded in on my 05' V8 4x4 4Runner! Got a whopping $2500 trade in. Not too bad considering they came down to 14500 on the 4runner w/ right at 100k miles. Retail on the runner was/is 19500.
Thanks for the help trying to sell it.
I almost cried when I had to leave her at the lot...oh well.

yeah you could put it up for 2500 kbb but thats only what id take if i was trading it in to a dealer. any toyota 4x4 extra cab is worth more than 2500 bucks. id start at 5 and deal down from there its a toyota they run a long time if maintained especially tacomas. i see toyota pickups with "rebuilt" 3.0 liter v6s notorious for failed head gaskets for for 5 all the time. I wouldnt settle on 2500 thats Kelly Blue Book who ever prices vehicles on that is very innacurate with what the man says and what price on the street is. i have never purchased a vehicle at or below kbb. Its always several thousand more. every toyota ive owned has been that way and everone knows " ITS A TOYOTA THEY RUN FOREVER" best track record. so if you settle on selling for 2500 someone with a rebuilt is going to love that.
