EMT national registry test

I take my national registry test to get my EMT cert on wendsday. Anyone taken it? if so do you have any advice? I finished all the requirments last june but havnt gotten around to taken the test. thanks in advance!

 

I've taken the emt and paramedic National Registries. I always did pretty good on class exams and used one of the study guides for each test. I passed them both no problem. I wouldn't stress too much if you passed your EMT class without any problems and study a little bit.

 

study your ass off for it know airway patient assesment and OB think bout your answer before you hit next goodluck!

 

Allright. Ill look over patient assesment again. any other suggestions?

 

Remember that each section is scored individually. That means you have to get a minimum score for each section. I remember hearing that OB\GYN is a section where people have problems because there are only a few question for that section.

 

If you have studied enough, you may have a shot. Personally, I would have taken a refresher course. Good luck.

 

that would have been ideal but i feel confident enough in my studying abilities to get it done, even though im on TW at the moment.......crap.

 

If you know it you know it. Its easy now computer based I was out in under 30mins. Only had like 70 or 71 questions. The new one is easier to me because you don't have to sit down and answer every question that was in the old test bookelt. I challenge my National every 2 years and even with the changing national standard I pass it just fine.

 

ok. I THINK I know it. or I think I will after todays massive study session. but since youv taken it a few times maybe you could throw some ideas of which topics come up the most or which ones were the most challenging?

 

what level is the test? Just remember that it's only a test. So long as you've done well in class, you should be fine. Stay relaxed, read the question, narrow down to the possible rear answers, and then have some confidence. Always consider safety and the best interest of the patient. OB usually isn't that must of an issue, they'll ask you obvious ones, (previa vs abruptio, etc). Remember how things work -- ABC's, safety of medication administration, blah blah blah. You'll do fine.

 

thats good advice. thanks. and since in california as an EMT-B we dont really administer medication except for assisting with an epi-pen or glucose or that sort of thing I dont really have to worry to much about it too much

I always thought OB was fairly simple. Just catch! Like everyone else told you, if you didn't have any trouble in class, a little refresher session at the kitchen table and you should be good to go. BTW, what level EMT are you going for? Good luck!

 

Im going for EMT-B. first step on a long road. and ill definantly let everyone know how it goes tomarow.

 

Good gravy, if you're in CA, just take a county test. You don't need NREMT. The only kicker is most counties want you to pay money to get to work in their area.

LA County and OC both have easy tests. So does Kern Co.

I've never taken NREMT and I was an EMT for 13 years...

 

Im just doing what my teachers and other firefighters/medics said to do. and the way I figure it I should take the hardest test possible to be best prepared.

 

I took my NR-EMTB test a while ago and it wasnt to bad. There were a lot of scenario based questions. Just follow your patient assessment sheets cause that will help a lot. REMEMBER??? Always your ABC's before you do anything else!! I got a number of questions like that. I think I got to question like 104 before it kicked me off. Others I took it with got booted at 70-112 and still passed. One guy didnt pass and he went to question 72 I believe. I also took and passed my Utah EMT-B test and that was a lot different. Not as many scenario based questions. Seemed a little easier too.

 

Always look for the least wrong answer! Sad, but not even kidding...
sometimes there is a sequence of things and if in your head you're thinking "i would do A,B AND C, you have to decide which comes first and go with that.
for instance
manual C cspine held
C collar applied
Pt immobilized to LSB w/ straps etc....
the end result is full spinal motion restriction, but you cant skip ahead of your steps.
and always re-check distal CSM after applying a splint!, (or MSC or PMS or whatever you were taught) thats an autofail...
When in doubt.... the answer is always C!... youve got a 25% chance of being right...! (JK, sort of.)

 

I teach emt, and in CA, YES you do have to have the NREMT. That was changed a few years ago. No longer are the days when you could just take a county test or drive up to sacramento to pick up your emt card. From my understanding almost everywhere cross the country now has to have the NREMT.

I also read that CA ems sucks. Well at the basic level we dont get to push drugs or advanced airway. But think about this. Statistically CA has the best EMS/Fire than anywhere else. Especially down here in the LA area. This is why everyone is playing catch up to LA standards. LA wrote the book on EMS, swiftwater, USAR and all that stuff. So i think we win.

 

I have never read about CA ems sucking and I disagree with that. But I also don't agree on CA having the best EMS service around. I honestly think it depends on the EMS provider himself. Yeah I have heard of certain crews and depts that rock at EMS but not just CA. I live in a rural part of NV/UT and a lot of our basics and intermediates here do lots more than Paramedics in bigger cities!! Our closest hospital is 120 miles away, one-way, so our EMTs actually have time to use there skills unlike bigger cities like LA or Salt Lake where their hospitals are 2 or 3 miles away. Not even enough time to push any drugs in. I know it depends on the situation but you get the point.
