You don't need the skid to reroute. It's very easy to tell what is high enough to clear any skid

Edit: although some companies make those comments to cover their asses from dummies. My TC spindle gussets called to remove the cv boot before welding the gussets. That wasn't necessary. All that's needed is a welding blanket draped over the boot so it doesn't get damaged. But there's people out there that won't do that, burn their boot, and blame Tc.

 

You can rewire & move the turn signal bulbs to where the orange little reflectors are next to the headlights

Maybe someone here can help me. I saw these and thought "cool, mitigate side rattle and paint chips." But after looking at them I'm thinking inconvenient? In the event I have to, you know - use my shackle, would I have to remove these washers (2 per shackle) to loop a strap eyelet? I typically don't shackle up until I need them but I'm gonna buy these and tinker with them on the mojave to test what kind of sound dampening and powder protecting they actually provide. Anyone have experience with them?

I have those as well as the "D" shaped sound isolators that fit in the hoop of the shackle, there is also play in the shackle pin/hole it slides through itself that I wrapped a layer of electrical tape to help minimize noise. You could also make some with a sheet of rubber and a set of hole punches, or buy some rubber washers from the bolt/hardware area at Lowe's or home depot. About the inconvenience, you may not have to take them off if you leave the hook on your winch or as long as your travel companions have hooks on theirs. As far as straps, you could just leave them on and use an extra shackle between the shackle and strap. Also "inconvenience" really only factors in if you use them a lot, how much do you plan on using them?

 

I hear what you're saying. A sheet of rubber and 3/4" punch is a good call. As for inconvenience, I don't plant to be stuck often. But in wet conditions such as mud or snow, off camber, and shin deep in some non-sense I don't want to be juggling Amazon washers. I like your idea of the punch method. I have a huge sheet of 1/8 rubber. I'll be going that route. Thanks. Also, as for those half moon doohickeys that slip onto the shackle itself. How do you like them? I presume, but could be wrong, you have to remove those when actually using the shackle?

And good call on the electric tape. Never thought of that. Albeit, as I mentioned I don't keep my shackles on all the time. Used them all the time in the Navy rigging heavy valves out of spaces. What I do know is to never tighten all the way down on them. Always back off a half turn. Which is why bailing wire or at the minimum, a zip tie is good to keep them from vibrating out on the trails.

 

I actually put blue thread locker on mine, it stops clowns from stealing them off the truck on the rare occasions when I DD my truck and all it takes to loosen them is a crescent wrench. I think the "D" shape isolators probably help a bit, since the shackles can slap around up and down when off road. If I ever lose the ones I have or they go bad I'll just make my own with some rubber and a 1in and 3/4in hole punch. I don't think the rubber/plastic on the "D" isolators would handle much pull, so yeah you would have to remove them to use the shackle, but you can pull those out without removing the shackle itself. Another advantage to making your own is you could get the exact thickness of rubber you need to take up all the play to help keep down any extra noise. I don't think the Daystar ones take up all the play, after the sun comes up I'll take some pics and post them.
