Only at 1000 miles but no issues so far. Really enjoy the truck, especially off-road.

So you just repost stuff you read on TW instead of providing any actual experience.

That incident you posted looks like his traction contol kicked in and it will do that if accelerating hard while turning. You would know that if you had one.

Sorry, try not to be, but such a shame Toyota caved in to government requirements and Millennial technology demands in a half-hearted way to produce an unreliable deathtrap.

Do you want 4wd or do you actually need it?

Totally a want. I live in SoCal, we don't need 4x4. But I just feel like a 4x4 would be good to have on the trails. But it's a want nonetheless.

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around why you would want something youll never need? It's an added expense, it saps fuel economy and power, there's more maintenance involved. You might find replacing your "prerunner" badges with "4x4" badges to be a more economical option.

I never said I wont use it. I go off-roading, so I will use it. Obviously I stay on 2wd trails now, but with 4x4 I can hit the 4x4 trails.

The question was, is it a want or a need. Well it's a want, since I can live with out it.

My two cents worth, I've had my 2017, TRD 4x4 for about 3 weeks now
With just Under 300 miles on it, granted I haven't driven it much but it's
Like the guys say you need to drive it ,the computer needs to learn your
Driving technics. Hammer down or grampa mode, so far I love the truck

I understand your fear of the unknown and I sympathize, I really do. All you really understand about the 3rd gen is by reading spooky stories on the lnternet.

But if you can learn to use more complex machinery, apply the new tools as intended and understand when and where they kick in, the fear goes away.

Oh geez. So much drama. I have two annoying as hell issues with my tacoma. The rumble vibe in 2wd is really pissing me the F off with this truck, but "unreliable deathtrap"? Give me a break.

It's just a vehicle, there isn't anything especially awesome or nefarious about it. It has strengths and weaknesses. It looks absolutely fantastic or is the ugliest piece of shit ever made depending on who you ask.

Ignore both ends of the spectrum on TW, go drive one and see if it suits you.
While the overwhelming majority of Tacoma owners are good folks, you will find a few douchebag 2nd Gen owners that think they are driving the epitome of automotive excellence.

A simple search on TW proves them wrong...

I guarantee whatever you buy is going to fall short of perfection, you can make yourself miserable if you listen to a bunch of assholes who make wild claims for or against any truck.

    Update....

I am definitely going with a 3rd gen. But because of budget reasons I am waiting. I am not going to settle. I want a 3rd gen Tacoma TRD-off road 4x4 this time. So I have decided to wait a few years and keep driving my 2011 until I am ready. No point on getting a 2nd 4x4 sr5 now, which is what's in my budget at this point.

Probably a good financial decision. My 2016 Trd off road has 5400 miles and runs great.
