Will the 5ft bed carry a yard of mulch? Will the skid steer dump it all into the bed or half of it down the side of the truck?

Depends on the width of the loader's bucket and the skill of the operator. If the bucket is 6 feet wide you'll be doing some shoveling.

This is a fine example of the kind of good for nothing responses I'm talking about...there are many here that do this all the time..."ignore list".

    you must be a millennial

    cue 'ignore list'

    For OP
Depending on size of the loader you'll probably be shoveling.
Whats the weight on a yard of mulch? Might want to consider that as well with the low payload of the tacoma.

I think you should consider your references. Tacoma's payload is ~1000#
Usually the yard skidsteer operator will notice your 5' bed and load half buckets...

with my reg cab I get a yard when I got pick up mulch. I can't see a yard fitting in a short bed.

    that's my point?
Whats the weight of a yard of mulch?
I'm not familiar with mulch, but I've had to haul sand and gravel before for work and found it to be rather heavy, possibly more than 1000lbs. Noticed it two weeks ago when I was doing some walkway work at home, patio slabs are 95lbs each, carry about 11-12 and you'll be over that 1000lb payload.

Whenever I had to haul gravel or sand for work we took one of the 3/4 ton trucks. Just something to consider

irony is I'm a millennial too hahaha. Saw a post on FB yesterday of some guy dressed up for halloween and was captioned 'typical millennial' Hat said 'I'm offended' and he was covered in bubble wrap.
Funny reading the comments so many millennials commenting saying how its so offensive to be making fun of them for their views etc, simply proving the costume accurate.
Too many from this generation have been babied by their parents that they are some special little flower or snowflake. That they shouldn't be offended etc. Growing up with this no kid left behind shit in school. Suddenly sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me, became, words hurt and I need a safe place, I am special.

Cue the Brad Pitt line from Fight Club.

Too bad many millennials can't accept this

Excellent point. Wasnt even thinking of payload. A yard of mulch ranges 400-800 lbs. so the bed should be good.

Basement living can be a bitch specially when you have to do "yard work" for rent! Cue that ignore button, again.

Maybe... I haven't got my 2017 yet, but the manual for my 2009 indicates that the "payload weight is is the TOTAL combined weight of the cargo AND the occupants".

I typically need three yards and have that crap dropped in the driveway. Oversized loads are either delivered or if questionable, I rent a truck for a few hours. If I know it will fit I use the taco, if it's a messy load I use the old taco.

I did a half yard of dirt (due to weight). Half yard looks like this:

    Plus about 20 shovelfuls, as I forgot I wanted a picture :D

For the double cab short bed, bed width * length * height is 1.03 cubic yards. You lose some of that space to wheel wells, but realistically you can pile the mulch a bit higher than the top of the bed toward the middle as long as you're careful about covering it all with a tarp.

One cubic yard of mulch is around 1000 lbs as long as it's relatively dry, which is within your payload capacity. You should be able to haul a cubic yard of mulch just fine. Just remember to cover your load well, because the bed will be completely full.

For heavier materials like soil, sand, or gravel, you'll exceed the payload before you fill the bed so it's better to specify by weight than volume where possible.

I have done it twice. And all of it went in the bed. Maybe I got lucky and the guy driving the loader isn't stupid
