So ginally got my map light only to see that two of the holes did line up but i am guessing that i need to cut the liner in order to make it sit flush. Anyone else had to cut the liner?

You will have to cut the liner in the center, so that it will sit flush. I just slit it cross-wise, just enough for the unit to set flush. I don't recall having to actually remove a piece of it.

    Why yes, yes I did.
Just pulled her off to get a pic for you. Na, just had to refresh my memory.
The pic should tell all. I stuck one of the outer screws into the shot for reference. They are sheet metal while the 2 inner are machine thread.
Also of note, the unit is grounded to the body by the screws. The 2 wires shown are fished from the regular dome lite. One is the "always hot" the other is switched from the doors.

I did this and ran both wires to the dome light because in my extended cab I want both to light up the interior for getting in and out or letting people see with, its also great because when in the truck you can turn on left or right front lights or the rear dome by simply flipping the switch on the light you want.

if like DP you don't want the fronts on with the door then the switch has a built in "off" switch so that feature is turned off.

if you are going to do it IMHO its best to set it up so "everything" works then you have all the options there and if you ever sell the truck the next owner may have reservations about electrical things not working and no matter what you say its not going to sound good to say you went to all the trouble of installing the light but didn't hook everything up on it. if someone told "you" that, then i think you would have to have some reservations about what else wasn't done "as intended" electrically on the truck

I wish they would have used those 4Runner map light housings in the Tacoma. Having the ability to have the fronts on with the door would be nice. Now I have to look for a grey one with the switch :)

Then again I never have my dome light on anyway so if I can't find one cheap no big deal :notsure:

Standard cab Tacoma's came with them also...

Seems weird they just weren't standard in all our rigs.

I think it was the work truck version packages where they ad no power, cruise, or map lights, they were the basic most basic options only

With that said though I have manual everything even hubs, but I have the map lights...oh.... well since standard cabs don't have a dome light I suppose they all have map lights to compensate for that. I just find it strange that Toyota went through the hustle of so many different configurations of this and that...

Haha that's even more screwy by Toyota, they give ya the map lights but without the third switch, lol. Just seems like they go outta their way to change and make different things that coulda easily all been the same. Seems like a $$ waster...

ya, haha. I'm thinking since It's the same cut-out if I go down this route it will be simple bolt-on and run the hot wire from the overhead for "courtesy"

It's less Tacoma and more mod
Just bought one of these on eBay from a 93 4Runner since it seems like the same screw pattern. It has all three switches and matches my interior.
