    Me too.

A couple of months ago my 02 4runner netted FAR less than 70% of what I paid for it in 04.

Just a suggestion though? When driving down the highway, look out the windshield not at the rearview mirror. :D

I was intrigued so checked for 2007 Canyons vs Tacomas near me.

    What I found:

    - Canyons between 150,000kms and 200,000kms (90,000 to 125,000 miles) are about $7,500-$8,500 (in US$).

    - Tacomas between 150,000kms and 200,000kms (90,000 to 125,000 miles) vary wildly from near the same for a base model to double and up depending on which aftermarket features they have.

Can't go wrong with a tacoma...canyon doesn't really have a proven track record. Probably a decent truck, dont get me wrong. But as far as reliability goes, tacoma has proven itself time and time again. reliability? dont even get me started.

I was so worked up while waiting for my truck to be built and delivered last December (too much reading in here!), I actually went and looked and drove both the Canyon and the....... (Other one, guess it really impressed me lol),
Left both experiences uttering "bleach, no way". Made my wait for my truck more anxious. In a GOOD way.

I'm playing reverse psychology. Hopefully he takes my advice, too many 3rd Gen's on the road now. Getting over populated, we don't want that now do we?

I actually traded in a 2016 Canyon with 4,000 miles on it for my 2017 Taco. I am very happy with my decision

I'll just tell you my story...it's on my build thread also if you care to see the trucks...

Bought my new 2015 Tacoma PreRunner in August of 2015. Paid 30k for it. Drove it for a year and put 20k miles on it in that time. I decided I wanted a TRD OR 4x4 so I started looking and got an appraisal on my 2015. I got 29,500 trade in value for it a year and 20k miles later. Needless to say, I'm in my 2016 TRD OR 4x4 for a whole 30 bucks more a month. Then refinanced with my credit union and cut my interest rate in half, shortened my term, cut my payment down another 50 bucks per month, AND added a 84 month 100k mile bumper to bumper warranty.

I'm in the truck I wanted from the get go for less than I was in my 2wd for.

I've lost my ass on every ford and Chevrolet I've ever owned. The Tacoma holds its value really well if you take care of it.

I went thru this exact same 'buying' process as you. I am a new owner of a 2016 Canyon SLT since February. I won't convince you either way...... it all depends on what you WANT, NEED, LIKE, etc.
I've owned many Toyotas in my time and my last truck was 2007 that I owned for 9 years. I'd been eyeballing the 'hype' of the 3rd gen but was disappointed when they actually came out. The disappointment for me was....no power seats? Really Toyouta? Toyota is very limited in options. I wanted a fully loaded with all the goodies and capabilities it should have for a 'new' truck.
I sat down and created an excel sheet with just about everything in it - and the two trucks compare very closely in capabilities (gasser that is) and all the mechanical BS. Which really wasn't my concern to begin with - but I had to see.

Believe me......it was a hard decision knowing I could be sacrificing reliability and resale. But - I took a chance and went this route. Only time will tell what will happen.
The things that Canyon has that the tacoma doesn't? ....crew cab with complete black leather interior. Power seats, Remote Start, heated mirrors, Rear defrost, all disc brakes, Auto 4WD, GM's version of a locking diff (not the same as Tacoma), Apple Carplay / phone connectivity - off the top of my head.

I've begun to 'warm up' to the truck (I did have a Tacoma chip on my shoulder for a while) and I really like it. I've been so in-tune with Tacomas (and the mechanicals) that this is a completely different world and like starting all over learning how things work (literally).

The truck has been back for a few things - dealership has taken care of me so far. Transmission(and/or programming) is odd.....upshifts too soon and doesn't downshift when you step on the gas. I got a transmission programming update which made it better but not perfect. Interior panels not installed properly, had one replaced. Intellilink needed updated firmware - it would do a reset on its own once in a while and other weird techy things would happen - all that seems to be fixed. The Navigation maps aren't the best but it'll 'get you there'.

When my factory warranty comes close to running out - I will definitely be researching my options for an extended warranty. I didn't go that route initially because it wasn't worth giving them my money NOW versus waiting.

Resale? Well......nobody really knows what the resale value willl be like on these redesigned trucks. It's all about supply and demand and a little bit of reputation (which, these trucks don't have yet). I honestly don't think it'll be as bad but not nearly as good at the Tacoma. I don't generally keep a vehicle past 10 years and if this truck lasts that long without any major issues, I'll be happy. If not? I won't hesitate to kick it to the curb.

Disclaimer: I didn't read any of the posts before this one

So I work for GM, we have all franchises and sell the most trucks in the region (including canyon/colorado). I've only seen 2 come in for any kind of issue. GM had a bad run of 2.5l engines. The first Colorado had to have the engine replaced. Out of spec rod ate the bearings and filled the engine with metal. Truck 2 had a faulty radio antenna and a t-case actuator that wouldn't go all the way to 2wd at times.

Thats it. Pretty good record I'd say.

BUT, I own a tacoma. This comes down to the way I use the truck. THe tacoma is way more rugged. One look underneath shows which one was made for offroading. The tacoma has a huge aftermarket that the GM twins don't. I Don't like the power output of the LFX 3.6l engine. I don't like the feel of electric steering and the overall mushy car-like feeling of the GM twins.

So, what's the symptoms of a faulty radio antennae? My husband always complains about how bad the FM reception is..... like the range isn't far enough? I wouldn't even know what radio station I could tune to that would prove it.....I mean, what's considered normal reception?

This one would just lose reception for no apparent reason. Was also setting internal open circuit codes.
